This is a fantastic time to be a pipeliner! The work orders and pre-jobscontinue to fl ood the Dispatch Offi ce. We have had great success in manningthe work this year. All of the Business Agents have been patient andtirelessly worked to assist Dispatch when we were struggling to fill orders.Danny had the forethought to assign Jerry Ryan, Organizer, to assist inlocating travelers and non-books. Jerry arrived with a can-do, tenaciousattitude that guaranteed success. For that reason, I want to extend a specialthanks to Danny Hendrix and Jerry Ryan for their supportand tolerance. The pipeline industry will not work as many man-hours asit did in 2008, but the Dispatch Office has worked harder. With the exception of a few big named projects, there wasnot near as much automatic work this year as there was in2008. This in itself reduced the amount of travelers availablesince most jobs were stick-rod in 2013. Additionally,we had many more small jobs to man and less projects that lasted all year. The difference is that once the big job is manned, we were fairly well donewith it other than drag-ups and crew additions. Small, multiple pre-jobsresult in a never ending fl ow of work orders. WHAT A PROBLEM TO HAVE!!We as a union are lucky to have the office staff we have and I never ceaseto be impressed and thankful for the ladies in Dispatch: Cathy, Cindyand Josalyn. Their dedication and hard work are invaluable to me anddeserving of the upmost respect and appreciation from those of you thatthey serve.DispatchReportBy Kevin LeeperI do have a few house cleaning issues:1. Your Out-of-Work Card must list all skills that you want to apply foron the Jobline. I will not call you for any job you apply for on theJobline if I cannot call you for the same job off the front of the list.2. “Automatic Technician” does not make you eligible for “AutomaticWelder”. You must check both on your Out-of-Work Card if youwant to do both.3. If you work on a job in 798 or ANY pipeline project inanother jurisdiction, you must call the Out-of-Work Listwithin 5 days of lay-off to retain your position on theOut-of-Work List (when you are eligible by the hours youhave worked). The exception is Building Trades andDistribution. You may stay on the wheel by producingproper documentation. As we look forward it is great news that we will haveseveral jobs in Texas working through the winter and on-going work in theMarcellus and Bakken Shales. This means we should have a very productivewinter. “Make hay while the sun shines” and enjoy this abundance. Ifthe Dispatch Office can assist you in any way, call us at (918) 610-2761 duringoffice hours. Call the Jobline Monday thru Friday, 5 P.M. until 7 A.M.Central Time to apply for jobs. Always remember that YOU are 798 andnot these buildings in Tulsa. Enjoy your Thanksgiving because we have somuch for which to be thankful. I wish you the best for the Christmas seasonand a happy, prosperous New Year!Corey Goulet, Jim Prescott, and Pat Hallwith Keystone/TransCanada visit theLocal 798 Training Center.B l u e L i g h t R e p o r t s • N o v e m b e r / D e c e m b e r 2 0 1 3 • P a g e 8
