At four and a halfacres, Colnbrook West Lake is filled with fish-holdingfeatures such as small bays, snaggy areas, small gravelbars and silt patches which can be home to large beds ofblood worm and other naturals.Overhanging trees and beds of Norfolk reeds are favouritespots for fish to hold up. In the summer, a large plateauin the centre of the lake becomes a holding area, and fishcan easily be observed cruising just under the surface.Colnbrook West Lake is home to a large head of carp forsuch a small water, and produced a new lake record lastseason with a 40lb plus common carp. Unfortunately wewere unable to obtain a photo. The lake also has around6 fish at 30lb plus and is backed up by a good number of20lb plus carp as well as the on growing doubles. Apartfrom the carp stock t<strong>here</strong> are some good sized bream,roach and tench which have all been landed at specimensizes. T<strong>here</strong> is a seven day limit in any one swim afterwhich the angler must move 90° around the lake.Permits for Colnbrook are in high demand, so a drawwill be held at the beginning of the season. Details areavailable from Head Office. Originally one water, they wereseparated a few years ago by the building of a roadway.Feature-wise, both lakes are very similar, with gravel barsrunning in all directions and small plateaus at variousdepths.Islands of all sizes litter Big Orlitts, and small bays andsnaggy areas offer some shelter for the fish along withsome stalking opportunities for anglers. Big Orlitts’ carppopulation comprises of ten fish between 30lb and 35lb,one or two of which are now hitting the forty pound markat the right time of year. T<strong>here</strong> are around fifty fish overthe 20lb barrier and the lake recently received a smallrestocking of 27 fish to 17lb 8oz. T<strong>here</strong> are no silver fishpresent but t<strong>here</strong> are a few tench to around 9lb.Please note that the viewing platforms and old swimsalong the entrance road to the Visitor Centre are out ofbounds.Parking along the roadway continues to be monitoredand anglers are warned to not leave their cars along themain perimeter road for even a short while as they will betowed away. Access is through combination-locked gates.Orlitts has its own car park but shares its toilet facilitieswith neighbouring water Colnbrook West.Old Slade Lake is a fifty acre venue which incertain areas reaches up to sixty-five feet indepth. The shallowest part of the lake is aroundthe island, from which the lake gradually shelves in depthuntil it reaches the first of the perimeter roads Whichwere used to extract the gravel when the pit was dug.The current lake record still stands at 38lb 9oz. TheGoldfish was been banked three times last season withits biggest weight being 16lb 10oz and at a rough guestt<strong>here</strong> are around 75 fish over the 25lb barrier with lots ofsmaller fish between 10 and 20lb, these are backed upby on-growing doubles.T<strong>here</strong> are also silver fish present <strong>here</strong>. Gravel barscan be found all over the lake and the silt beds areteeming with naturals such as shrimp and blood worm,providing large amounts of natural food in the summer.T<strong>here</strong> are large areas of reed beds and in the summermonths lily pads spring up in several places.Not to be classed as an easy water, Rodney Meadow willreward anglers willing to put in the effort with some trulybeautiful fish. The current lake record is 47lb 4oz with a fishknown as The ¾ Linear. T<strong>here</strong> are about six fish over 30lb,the biggest of which is known as Three Scale and weighs inat 38lb 2oz. T<strong>here</strong> are three ghost carp to 25lb plus, lots ofupper twenties, and silver stock and tench to 7lb.For the pike angler t<strong>here</strong> are a small number of pikepresent to 22lb. Rodney Meadow is accessed throughcombination-locked gates and is situated at the end ofa long drive hundreds of metres from the nearest mainroad. The venue has two car parks, allowing access toopposite ends of the lake, the first of which is sharedwith neighbouring venue Mayfields and is w<strong>here</strong> thetoilet facilities are located.29lb 8 ozMayfields is a lake of over 4 acres which offersquite a lot of different features includinggravel bars and silt valleys. The depth rangesbetween these bars and gullies vary from 4ft to 14ft.The lake holds a good stock of carp, of which the biggestcaught in 2012 was 35lb. T<strong>here</strong> are at least ten 30lbplus carp and a nice stock of 25lb plus. Most anglers onMayfields have caught their personal bests during theAdditional Rules for Rodney Meadow●●No leaders of any kind to be used mainline only.●●Tubing is allowed.●●NO WADING.41lb 6oz34lb2012 season and have found that fishing the top in warmweather produces good results for the carp.Also fishing better than in previous years are the catfishwhich have been out in a few instances during theseason. We have seen weights between 12-34lb. Thetench have been showing well with fish up to 9lb.Mayfields Lake is accessed through secure combinationlockedgates and is located at the end of a long driveseveral hundred metres from the nearest road. We now believethat the pool contains at least one fish that exceedsthirty pounds, twelve at 25lb plus, a small head of fisharound the 20lb mark and a fair few doubles. T<strong>here</strong> arealso a number of silver fish and tench present.Thorney Pool is accessed through combination-lockedgates and is on the same complex as Rodney Meadowand Mayfields Lake. T<strong>here</strong> are three swims on the lakethat have behind-swim parking. The toilet facilities areshared with both Rodney Meadow and Mayfields Lakeand may be found in the first Rodney Meadow car park.Stockley is a lake of two halves, with two bays,reed beds and a long no-fishing bank withoverhanging trees. For a fairly small water thelake contains some nice fish, topped by Gertie and theGrey Lady.Last season Gertie was banked at 36lb 8oz and the GreyLady at 35lb 2oz. The other residents have attained newbest weights and are backed up by a good head of fishbetween 20lb and 25lb and plenty of growing doubles.Members have reported landing some impressive tench,and the predator anglers have hooked pike in excess oftwenty pounds by spinning or dead baiting.Although Stockley’s bailiff team have done a lot of workto increase the access to the swims with non-slip rampsand guide rails, this water is still not suitable for anglerswith limited mobility.The venue is accessed through secure padlocked gatesdirectly into the car park which also houses the toiletfacilities.Additional rules for this lake can be foundon the notice board at the venue.26lb 12oz28lb 6oz19lb 2ozGertie - 41lb 4oz<strong>Boyer</strong> <strong>Fishing</strong> Venue Guide 2013–2014 <strong>Boyer</strong> <strong>Fishing</strong> Venue Guide 2013–20148 9

Producing some decentbags to anglers, the Colne has seen bream to 5lb and theodd tench to 4lb. T<strong>here</strong> are several areas that look very‘chubby’ and multiple catches of chub to 4lb have beenreported previously. The shallower sections produced afish of nearly 6lb.Barbel have been reported from the area just south of theweir and have averaged 4-5lb, with one report of a fish of9lb. The weir pool directly south of the A40 bridge offerssome decent pike fishing with reports of numerous jacks,a few doubles and one fish pushing 20lb.The car parking for this venue is situated next to the TigerCubs restaurant and is accessed through combinationlockedgates. The RulesAdditional rules relating to specific venues may be found on the relevant page of the venue guide.1 Neither the company nor its servants shall be heldresponsible for any loss or damage to, or theft of,property howsoever caused. Ticket holders are notentitled to make any claims against the companyor any of its servants or agents in respect of anysuch loss, damage, theft or injury.2 The company reserves the right to withdrawpermits or offers at its absolute discretion. Inthat event all fishing rights of the former permit/ticket holder shall immediately cease, and norefund of monies shall be made.3 Any member acting in an unsportsmanlikemanner is liable to have their permitwithdrawn.4 No member may take up their swim prior tothe season starting. All leads must pass freelyover leader knots.20 Only one beach caster set-up per angler ispermitted.21 Pike anglers must be in possession of forcepsat least 8” in length.22 Pike anglers mainline must be a minimum of12lb breaking strain.23 Pike anglers must use wire traces AT ALLTIMES.24 Pike anglers using more than one rod MUST usean audible bite alarm on the second rod to avoidthe deep hooking of pike.25 The use of pike gags is prohibited on allvenues.26 Anglers under the age of 12 may only use onerod, anglers over 12 but under 16 may only use2 rods.
