can be found in Stone et al. (2003), although this may need to be modified so it is cost effective and<br />

manageable by contract monitors. In addition, adoption by all states of a standard reporting <strong>for</strong>mat<br />

that quantifies spatial extent and severity of insect herbivore damage would be useful but may be<br />

impossible given current funding and resources. Some states have adopted this in some of the more<br />

recent reports. More consistent reporting using species-level taxonomic identifications would also<br />

be beneficial.<br />
