Coaching Development & Recruitment Manager’s Report2008 proved to be a very successful season for our representative teams and I wish toapplaud all the players who made the Panthers representative teams. Congratulationsto Vaipuna Tia Kilifi from the Panthers Harold Matthews team, in taking the JuniorRepresentative Player of the Year award. Congratulations also to young Panthers WilliamBeale and Kevin Morgan, who were both selected in the 2008 NSWRL Under-16 Indigenousteam.Penrith’s Harold Matthews team reached the grand final undefeated, only to go down 30-17 to Parramatta in the decider. Our SG Ball team also performed creditably through the2008 season, finishing sixth on the ladder with seven wins and three losses. Both teamscontinued the successful development programs of the club and turned in sterling efforts, especially considering the number of players who moved into higher grades through thecourse of the season. Four SG Ball Panthers, Wade Graham, Lachlan Coote, Evrett Vaurasiand Matthew Wright represented NSW Under-18. Wade and Lachlan went on to maketheir NRL debuts later in the season. A composite team drawn from both SG Ball andHarold Matthews players also figured in a 32-10 win over the touring BARLA team in amatch played in extremely cold conditions at Western Weekender Stadium, St Marys.Windsor Wolves club on achieving so much in theirinaugural Premier League season.I wish to thank Penrith CEO Michael Leary for hisunwavering support and the influential roles playedby Harold Matthews coach Brad Liggins, SG Ballcoach Alex Melville, Head Coach Matthew Elliottand Assistant Coach Wayne Collins in ensuring thatuniversal game structures and systems have beenimplemented throughout the club’s junior ranks. Finally, I wish to convey a warm “thank you” to allJim JonesCoaching Development andRecruitment Managerthe players and staff whose single-mindedness and dedication to the task at hand ensurePenrith Panthers Rugby League teams at all levels continue to enjoy positive results. The National Youth Competition, sponsored as the Toyota Cup, was held for the very firsttime in 2008. This is the official development competition for the NRL and is comprised ofteams from 16 clubs, fielding squads of players under the age of 20. The competition placesa heavy focus on life outside football for the players. Because of our great wealth of youngplayers I firmly believe the Penrith club has a great future in the NRL. Congratulations toCoach Steve Georgallis and his staff for a wonderful season. Season 2009 will see us placeenormous faith (and responsibility) in our younger players. We look forward to developinginto one of the teams no other NRL rival club feels confident in facing. The Edge Programand The Plus Six Program were two successful initiatives run by the club to help in thedevelopment and education of our coaches, staff and young players.Another 2008 positive was the performance of the Windsor Wolves Premier LeagueTeam, which fininshed fifth in the competition after proving a very competitive outfit, and providing stolid back-up for the Panthers NRL team.
