GENERAL ARTICLES ON DEVIIntroduction:This shloka on vAyu/hanuman has poetic beauty as well ascomplex philosophical concepts. The understanding of anyvAyu tattva involves lot of deep-rooted study. We can getsome glimpses of these tattvas in various places. Sri Vadirajarucombines these complex concepts with poetic nectar aswell and distributes this nectar to the devotees of Shri Hari.Recitation of this stotra will bring blessings of vAyu/hanumanto the readers. We will make an attempt to see the meaning of three versesfrom Vayu stotra as presented in “Sarasa BhArati Vilasa”,one of the compositions of Sri Vadirajaru (1480-1600 CE)who is a famous saint in the madhva lineage..Verses 17-27 in dvitIya vilAsa called “Surapriya Vilasa” istermed as Vayu stotra. We will just see first three of thoseverses (17, 18 and 19).Shloka 17:dhyAtre gAtre hareH stotre shAstre kupathavartinAm |pAtre satAm vimukteshcha dAtre sUtrAya te namaH || - 17 –!"#$%&#'("$)#*namaH = I bowte = to you (who)sUtrAya = sUtra nAmne = is known as SutrahareH dhyAtre gAtre stotre = hareH dhyAnakartre gAnakartrestotrakartre =constantly meditates upon Lord Shri Hari, sings the gloriesof Lord Shri Hari, extolls Lord Shri Hari thru stotraskupathavartinAm shAstre = ku+patha+vartinAm shAstre= durmArgapravR^ittAnAMshAsanakartre = punishes those treading the evil pathsatAm pAtre = sajjanasAdhUnAm rakShaNakartre = protectsthe good peoplevimukteshcha dAtre = mokShasya api pradAnakartre =grants even the liberation.+,#-%-.*Oh Lord Vayu, I bow to you, who is known as Sutra and whoconstantly meditates upon Lord Shri Hari, sings the glories ofLord Shri Hari, extolls Lord Shri Hari thru stotras, punishesthose treading the evil path and protects the good people, grants even the liberation./0&1#-#$%2-*Lord Shri Hari is well-known as “JagannATakasUtradhAri”.Lord Shri Hari controls all the living beings (and also all inert345)"%46#"%47#894:9"9;)824

Thefaults come in many forms like ignorance, sadness, fear, defeat, weakness, tiredness, disease, old age, delusion, etc. LordVayu is devoid of all such defects/flaws/faults. In addition, heis also well-known to be remover of such defects of his devoteesdepending upon their devotion and yogyata. One may say “It would have sufficed to say ‘Giver of joy tothe devotees’. Since all the devatas are any way devotees, whysay ‘Giver of joy to the cluster of devatas’?”. It is possible thatone may have a doubt “Are all the devatas devotees of Vayu?”and “Is Vayu above all the other devatas so as to bless themand give them joy?” To satisfy both these doubts, the latter ismentioned. All the other devatas are devotees of Vayu, Vayuis above all the devats and he is gracious and kind to all theother devatas.vajrapamjara means a lot more than “one having strong bodylike diamond”. In Chandogya Upanishad, we see the following -“atha ha ya evAyaM mukhyaprANaH tamudgIthamupAs-Amchakrire tam ha asurA R^itvA vidadhvasuH yathADEVI MAHOTSAVAM 2013ashmANamAkhaNamR^itvA vidhvamseta evam | ... saeSho.ashmA.a.akhaNaH || “When devatas try to do the worship of “UdgItha” namedLord in the chalapratimas of other indriyAbhimAni devatas, the asuras affect them making them pApagrastas (affected bysins). Then devatas worship of “UdgItha” named Lord in thechalapratimas of MukhyaprANa. When the daityas try to affectthe MukhyaprANa, they get crushed to powder like themud balls get crushed, when they hit extremely hard rock.Hence MukhyaprANa is called “AkhaNAshma”. That is thereal essence of “vajrapaMjara”.Shloka 19:namo hanumate rAmadhImate jitakAma te |mameShTam dadate sItAkR^ite shatrujite sate || - 19 -!"#$%&#'("$)#*namo = I bowte = to youhanumate = HanumanrAmadhImate = knower of the will of Lord Shri RamajitakAma = conquerer of Kama |mameShTam dadate = Fulfiller of my wishes (that are goodto me)sItAkR^ite shatrujite sate = conquerer of the enemies, whotried to trouble Goddess Sita’s AkR^iti./0&1#-#$%2-*hanU j~nAnavAchI syAt = The word Hanu means j~nAna.He is known as HanumAn as he possessed pure j~nAnaabout the Lord.AchArya says in SundarakAMDa (in Mahabharata tAtparyanirNaya) -“naraloka viDmbasya jAnan rAmasya hR^idgatam |tasya cheShTAnusAreNa kR^itvA cheShTashcha samvidam |”He knew what Lord Shri Rama is thinking and what the Lordintends. The Lord Himself is acting like a human being. Inaccordance to His acts and His will, Hanuman also pretendedwhere ever he wanted to as per the Lord.Ravana would be incapable of carrying the real Sita. But theLord intends to expose the evil acts of Ravana and then punishhim and his evil followers. So, Sita puts in her place her‘AkR^iti” or “chAya”.Being the Supem Goddess and the consort of Shri Hari himself, such an act is easily done by LakshmyAtmaka Sita.Shri KrishnArpaNamastuKesava Rao Tadipatri learnt madhva shastra from his father Sri T.V.Subba Rao whose fatherand guru is Sri T. Hanumantha Rao who learnt from famous saint Sri Sathyadhyana Theerthaswamiji of Sri Uttaradi maTha.91
