Unrecognized Treasure,Misplaced GratitudeBy Shawn HubertThis is the time of the year when we turn ourthoughts towards what we are thankful for. As followersof Jesus Christ we should be the most gratefulpeople on the planet because we recognizethat we have the greatest gift of all, a personal relationshipwith Jesus. But are we living out our lives in gratitude? Are weknown in our society as those filled with joy, satisfaction, contentment and thankfulness? Do thosewho encounter us at home, at work, and in ourcommunity recognize a profound sense of contentmentin us? I have to admit, often I fall victim to thepull of our culture to be full of discontentment anddissatisfaction, instead of having the characteristicof thankfulness overflowing in life. SO WHY?I’ve found that discontentment begins when Icount the blessings of others, or when I fail to taketime to appreciate my blessing. Sometimes I simplydon’t recognize THE reason I have to be full ofthanksgiving. Rather, I get sucked into a worldviewthat is trying to find external stimulus for my happiness.“If only I had ___________, then I would behappy.” What would you put into that blank? Just alittle more money? A nice place to live? A nicer car? Aboyfriend or girlfriend? A raise at work? A vacation?A husband or wife, or a better one? An iphone 5? Ahealthy body? Or whatever your blank would be.Couple’s Ming Vase Used AsDoorstop Fetches $1.3 Million AtAuctionThis undated photo provided by Sotheby’s showsa rare Ming Dynasty vase that had been used asa doorstop in a Long Island home. The blue andwhite moonflask was auctioned at Sotheby’s NewYork sale of Chinese works of art, fetching $1.3million. The couple doesn’t want to be identified.(Sept. 12, 2012)“Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had doneand what I had toiled to achieve, everything wasmeaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothingwas gained under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 2:11).The problem with seeking this kind of external happinessis that it is completely dependent on what is“happening” or “not happening” to me at the time.So I find myself going on a rollercoaster ride in lifeexperiencingjoy one moment, then depression, then excitement, then discontentment. This kindof emotional rollercoaster is all dependent on whatis going on in my life at the time, and is not the kindof internal, lasting joy and contentment that is tobe the constant characteristic of a follower of Jesus.Jesus says He will bring us a fulfilling and joyful life.Page 4THE CROSSING || October 2012 || www.CrossRoadsChurch.ca

“I have come so they can have real and eternallife, more and better life than they ever dreamedof.” John 10:10 (MSG)Why do I miss it, then? Why do I not see the valueor the gift right before me? Like the Ming vasedoorstop, sometimes we don’t understand thevalue of the gift we have been given. Our faithsimply becomes another “thing” in our lives andsometimes, we have to admit that we just use itto prop the door open when we need a little help, and then we’re on our way.I am starting to get a clearer picture of what a giftJesus really gave me. It is hard to find continuousjoy or gratitude in an event that happened over2000 years go (Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross), andit is hard to find joy or gratitude even by simplyreading my Bible every day. NOW before you tarand feather me, let me explain.Jesus said, “You diligently study the scriptures becauseyou think that by them you possess eternallife. These are the Scriptures that testify aboutme, yet you refuse to come to me to have life”(John 5:39-40). In other words, our joy or satisfactionin life doesn’t come from an understandingor knowledge about what Jesus has done, butrather it comes from a person, Jesus Himself.Acts 17:25 says, “He Himself gives life and breath toeverything, and He satisfies every need there is.”It is the presence of the person of Jesus thatbrings us this kind of contentment, satisfaction, and gratitude despite life’s circumstances. Biblicalknowledge itself doesn’t satisfy me when I amin times of hurt, struggle, trial or frustration. It isthe person of Jesus that does. So my thankfulnessdoesn’t depend on what happens to me then, butrather it’s found in a person, God Himself. The giftof the Holy Spirit’s presence, God’s presence inour lives is the source of everything we need. What are you hoping to have to enjoy life to thefullest? The presence of God through the gift ofthe Holy Spirit satisfies all those needs. Don’t missthe treasure in what we have been given, andmiss out on THE reason we have to give thanks. What are you needing?Isaiah 54:5-6 – God’s presence becomesthe husband to the divorced woman.Psalm 68:5 - God’s presence becomes a fatherto the fatherless.Zechariah 2:5 - God’s presence becomesthe wall of fire to those who need protection.Isaiah 62:5 - God’s presence becomes thebridegroom to the person grieving thatshe’ll never marry.Psalm 103:3 - God’s presence becomes thehealer to the sick.Isaiah 9:6 - God’s presence becomes theWonderful Counselor to the confused andthe depressed.John 4:13-14 - God’s presence becomes livingwater to those who are thirsty.John 6:35 - God’s presence becomes breadof life to those who are hungry.John 14:18 - God’s presence becomes thefaithful one to those who have been abandoned.John 14:6 – God’s presence is the way, thetruth and path to a new life when this oneends. We have been given the presence of God, no matterwhat our circumstances. We can ALWAYS givethanks for the greatest gift we have, Himself. Whyseek what moths, rust, and thieves can take away?“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever.”Psalm 107:1THE CROSSING || October 2012 || www.CrossRoadsChurch.ca Page 5

Return HomeBy Chad Verity, Communications CoordinatorLeviticus 25:10 proclaims, “Set the fiftiethyear apart as holy, a time to proclaimfreedom to the land for all who livethere.” Of course, this proclamation wasmade to a people who lived thousands ofyears ago in a far away land. However thisyear is our fiftieth year and as a communityof people who are following Christ withour lives we are seeking what it means toproclaim a year of Jubilee here and now. What does it mean to proclaim freedomthroughout our land? What is freedom? It’sa search that must be made personally tothe centre of what it means to be a child ofGod, and one that would lead me to interestingconversations and places. For the ancient Israelites the word liberty, used in Leviticus 25:10, would conjure imagesin their head of a river flowing alongits proper course, or a bird in free flight.Such imagery is not foreign to us whenwe contemplate freedom either. The steepinsurmountable cliffs of the Rocky Mountains,or the vast expanse of bare prairielandscape. Though we know what freedomlooks like when we see it, it is somethingelusive to define. What is freedom?G.K. Chesterton wrote, “The idea of libertyhas ultimately a religious root; that is whymen find it so easy to die for and so difficultto define.” 1Where do you find it? How do you knowwhen you’ve finally obtained it? How canwe give it away to others without knowingwhat it is? The foundation of our country isbuilt on the human right to freedom, butwithout a proper definition of the word, how do obtain it? Every Canadian citizenhas the freedom of conscience and religion. The freedom of thought, belief, opinionand experience. Freedom of peacefulassembly and association. I have the freedomto go and to do whatever I set mymind to provided it does not infringe onthe freedom of others. It is easy to see thecaptivity present where these freedomsare denied. But is that the type of freedomproclaimed by the writer of Leviticus? Our society defines freedom as the abilityto choose your own path and go anddo whatever you want inside the parametersof our laws. We know this becauseour punishment for breaking these laws isthe subsequent removal of your ability togo and do whatever you want to. So obviouslythe place to test this definition offreedom is prison. If Jubilee is about proclaimingfreedom to people, and jail is theantithesis of freedom, then I wanted myown personal journey to start there. What Ifound there shocked me.What I found there was freedom. Inside aplace that uses the obstruction of freedomas a course correcting punishment are menand women who are continuing to pursuebetter lives in prison. People who are educatingthemselves through the resourcesprovided them, who are learning workplaceskills through work programs, maintainingrelationships with other inmates, and some who found a relationship withChrist through the chaplaincy program.Obviously these men and women are rare;they are the exception. But it proves thatfreedom can still be found in prison. Thereis a problem with that definition of freedom. It has to be more than being able togo and do whatever it is you want to.The same can be said for places like Chinaand North Korea. Places where people’sfreedom, those same ones guaranteed tothe people of a “free state”, are taken awayand where religion and peaceful assemblyare against the law. In places where the“freedom” to be a follower of Christ is notacknowledged, the church is flourishingand alive like never before. What confused me the most about thisis the words of Leviticus 25. There we seeland going back to its rightful owners, slaves and servants going back to theirfamilies, men not having to labour in thefields. How is that any different than thedefinition of freedom I’ve been working toresolve? I haven’t fully figured it out, but Ibelieve that the answer is found in Leviticus25:13. “In this Year of Jubilee everyoneis to return to their own property”.Another way to put it would be “everyoneis to return home.” In a year of Jubilee everyoneis free to return home. The phraseechoes back and forth through my head.Freedom, true freedom, is the ability toreturn home. Return to the place whereyou were born to be. Return home to bethe man or woman you were created to be.Return home to be the father she needs.Return home to be the husband or wifethey need you to be. Return home to bethe man or woman who was knit togetherin your mother’s womb. Everyone, fromthe incarcerated felon to the inattentivefather, is free to come home.I’m reminded of the story of the prodigalson in Luke 15. The son believed his sourceof freedom was found in his ability to goand do what he pleased with his life andwith his newfound wealth. However, hefound and experienced true freedom inhis ability to come home when everythingelse was gone. We have begun to pray aprayer that comes from one of our priorities.Part of that prayer goes like this: “Father,as You have shared Your heart with usfor those that were once near and are nowfar from You, we pray that we would, withgreat joy and much grace, join with You incalling and welcoming these people backinto Kingdom fellowship. Draw hundredsof individuals back to You and the fellowshipof Your people.” God has answeredthis prayer for us many times over, and wehave rejoiced to see old friends return toour fellowship. When I hear our leaders talk about thisyear of Jubilee for CrossRoads, I understandit is about welcoming people backhome. Not just people who have stoppedcoming to CrossRoads and have startedcoming again, but something deeper. Forpeople who physically have never left, buthave left home, left to be someone apartfrom the person God created. Jubileemeans that we welcome them back home, home to the person they were made to be.Home to be themselves. May we all be freeto come home.______1Chesterton, G. K. (2004). Worship Arts MinistryPastor Dallas Lundell DallasL@CrossRoadsChurch.ca)The Risen Kingby Jesse Bourne - the worship leader who plays only his vocal chordsand stomps his feet a lot - to keep time and dance a little.and Andrew Wiebe - the passionate, worshipping, electric guitar playerwho has been around for a long time and wears a great five o’clock shadow.“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God,for if righteousness could be gained through the Law, Christ died for nothing!”Galatians 2:20-21The Risen KingVerseIn the holy love of Christthere lives the only sacrifice; For once, for all, for love, by faith He redeems us.There is no more to do! Nothing left to prove! No law, no scheme, no plan,no work of human hands.Pre-ChorusWhat’s done is done forever;nothing could make it better.I claim the perfect sacrifice.ChorusIt is not I who lives, but Christ in me!With Him I’m crucified to be set free!BridgeMay we not rebuild what Love has now fulfilled!May holy freedom reign by faith in Jesus’ name!May all the glory be to Christ the Risen King! The Risen King is a song that Andrew and I wrote overthe past couple of months after spending some timeeating our daily bread from the book of Galatians. It began after I read the verses above and my heart wasimpacted with such intensity that my tongue startedputting melody to that first sentence immediately. It wasone of those moments where the words just jumped offthe page, except in this case they jumped right downmy throat and sang themselves out again!I have spent so much time in my life attempting tofollow the law and rid myself of this sin and that sin andthe other sin, instead of living in the truth gathered upamong the pages of the book of Galatians that becamethe lyrics of this song. As a believer in Christ Jesus, I amcalled to recognize that I have been crucified with Christand am now a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), whollyrest in the completed work of Christ on the cross, andenter into a dance with the Holy Spirit – where His feetgo, mine should follow.Andrew and I pray that this song will be something theSpirit uses over the next couple of months to cementtruths found in the book of Galatians, that we mightwalk in the freedom that Christ so graciously set us freefor! All glory and honour and praise be to our Father inHeaven, His son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit - whosefruit is bound by no law!Page 10THE CROSSING || October 2012 || www.CrossRoadsChurch.ca

Women’s MinistryStacy Mattheis (StacyM@CrossRoadsChurch.ca 403.342.6143)We Are Freeby Stacy Mattheis“The enemy is under your feet,We are freeWe are free”During an Easter Choir rehearsal this pastspring, we were singing the song “Alive inUs” and we took a minute to focus on thechorus. We sang together a cappella and repeatedthose words many times. I imaginedit was like a 21 st century victory chant and itwas a moment filled by the Holy Spirit withHis presence. I was overcome with joy andpeace as we repeated the chorus over andover. We were praising Christ and proclaimingthe Lord’s promise that He will put our enemyunder His feet. And so while there has never been any questionabout your honesty in these matters—I couldn’tbe more proud of you!—I want you also to besmart, making sure every “good” thing is thereal thing. Don’t be gullible in regard to smoothtalkingevil. Stay alert like this, and before youknow it the God of peace will come down on Satanwith both feet, stomping him into the dirt.Enjoy the best of Jesus! Romans 16:19-20 (MSG)I reminded the enemy that night the he wasunder the feet of Jesus and I am free. Thischorus has been a powerful tool of praiseand protection since that moment in choirpractice. I have had to pray and proclaim freedomin many areas of my life these past fewmonths. I have needed freedom from livingunder the opinion of others, freedom fromworry and approval about the role modelI am to others, freedom to regain my confidenceand walk out my calling in love. What does this freedom look like in my life? How does it show me to live out the Gospel? This freedom changes me significantly. It altersmy heart and creates a love for God’speople—a love that comes through the eyesof Jesus. What does the fruit of this freedomlook like? I believe the fruit is a desire to seeGod’s will done here on earth, a desire sostrong that it motivates and influences mydecisions. It stirs in me so strongly that I longto see grass-roots relationships develop inwomen, to see women grow a deep love fortheir husbands and to be deeply loved in return,to see families strengthened and childrenraised with a solid foundation in Christ. My family and I started serving in Children’sMinistry this year. I desire to see the childrenhere (mine and yours) know Jesus personallyand intimately, to have a story that beginswith a heritage rooted in Christ. I don’t servebecause I have to or because I have superwomansyndrome. I serve because I love Jesusand His church, the people that make upthat body. My girls and I participate in choiras well because we experience the Holy Spiritin a unique way when we gather with otherbelievers who worship from a heart of humilityand love for the freedom that Christ offers.I am not saying that you have to be involvedin everything but I do believe that Christ hasgiven us freedom and that it should stir us toserve Him and His people.Isaiah 49:8-10 (NIV) says, “This is what theLord says: “In the time of my favour I willanswer you, and in the day of salvation Iwill help you; I will keep you and will makeyou to be a covenant for the people, to restorethe land and to reassign its desolateinheritances, to say to the captives, ‘Comeout,’and to those in darkness, ‘Be free!’””I am so humbled and grateful that Jesus waitsfor me to lay all of my stuff at His feet. I getfrustrated and tied up in my old walk. I gettired from serving but I am learning to recognizethese feelings, and put them under thefeet of Jesus and BE FREE. Free to love, free toserve, free to follow Jesus.Page 12THE CROSSING || October 2012 || www.CrossRoadsChurch.ca

Early Childhood MinistryPastor Nicole Thibeau (NicoleT@CrossRoadsChurch.ca)Anna Halliwell (AnnaH@CrossRoadsChurch.ca) Marcia Bowler (MarciaB@CrossRoadsChurch.ca)Challenge to ALLEarly Childhood Families!by Nicole ThibeauWhen you think about EarlyChildhood Ministry, what are thefirst five words that come to yourmind? As many of you know, I am weeksaway from leaving my positionhere at the church to welcome oursecond baby into our family. As Ileave, I feel it’s really important notto spend time looking back, butlooking forward. Looking aheadto the big plans God has in storefor our CrossRoads families! Joe and I will continueto call CrossRoads home and we look forward tojourneying with God and the families at CrossRoadsin the pathway He has set out for us as parents. Hereis where I believe God is leading our Early ChildhoodMinistry. I am amazed at how in control God always isand how His planning and foresight is impeccable! InHis wisdom, He has created a plan and put into motiona vision that is meant to be carried out and propelledforward by the families of CrossRoads. Even in theabsence of a Pastoral role, God has indeed equippedand placed the ministry in a spot where I believeincredible growth and increased commitment willcontinue to occur in the lives of our families. So I goback to my original question. When you think aboutEarly Childhood Ministry, what are the first five wordsthat come to your mind? Do you have your answersyet? Although I’m sure your answers describe EarlyChildhood, there are three key points that I wanteach of you to adopt, absorb, and be striving for asfamilies in Early Childhood.1. Early Childhood is a family-run ministry; thechurch seeks a partnership with parents.2. Early Childhood seeks to equip parents to bethe spiritual leaders in their child’s life.3. Early Childhood desires to help and inspireparents to bring faith into their home.Family-Run MinistryWe want Early Childhood to be a family-run ministry, whereby parents lead the direction and embodythe vision in the years to come. We want parentsto experience the parenting journey together.Connecting parents to one another. To shareexperiences and to cheer one another on is a priorityfor us (swapping of stories, what worked, what didn’twork… especially when it comes to bringing faithinto the home). We want to empower our familiesto be rooted at home and to help grow them intheir commitment to the Lord, to their family, andto the church. We hope that serving in the ministry, providing input and investing in what happens in theclassroom will become a main priority for families.Equipping Parents to be Spiritual LeadersThere has been a huge shift in our ministry. Wehave left behind the belief that it is the church’s soleresponsibility to lead our children into a relationshipwith Jesus – to be the primary spiritual teachersin a child’s life. Instead we have shifted towards apartnership with parents, in which we uphold theparents as the spiritual leaders of their home and weseek to equip them in this endeavor. Deuteronomy6:5-9 states: “Love the Lord your God with all yourheart and with all your soul and with all yourstrength. These commandments that I give youtoday are to be upon your hearts. Impress themTHE CROSSING || October 2012 || www.CrossRoadsChurch.ca Page 17

Early Childhood MinistryPastor Nicole Thibeau (NicoleT@CrossRoadsChurch.ca)Anna Halliwell (AnnaH@CrossRoadsChurch.ca) Marcia Bowler (MarciaB@CrossRoadsChurch.ca)on your children. Talk about them when you sit athome and when you walk along the road, when youlie down and when you get up.” The context in whichthe word “impress” is used has become extremelyimportant to me and vital to the ministry vision. Itis defined as “to have a strong, lasting, favourableeffect on”. When we apply this to the context of thefamily, it should read, the family unit (however it maybe comprised) will have “a strong, lasting, favourableeffect on our children” in a way that teaches them to“love the Lord our God with all their heart and with alltheir soul and with all their strength”.How do we help and inspire parents to do this? Wewant to encourage, support and raise up a generationof parents who desire and understand what it meansto be the spiritual leaders of their home. Whathappens in the home is what sticks – what most kidswill remember. Moses in this passage in Deuteronomyspecifically lists the opportunities parents have toimpress this message on their children: mealtime, drive time, bedtime and morning time. We oftentalk about building a foundation for our kids at thisage – that what they learn now is foundational toeverything they will do in the future. And we wantthis foundation to be created, formed and cementedin the home. It is our desire to help equip you asparents so you are ready to take advantage of everyopportunity that comes your way during mealtime, drive time, bedtime and morning time.Faith at HomeWe want to encourage parents to live out an authenticrelationship with Jesus, one that is real and lived outevery day of the week before their children’s eyes. There is a quote that I once read that has stuck withme. It said that we never have to buy into the myththat we have to become the “right” kind of parentbefore God can use us in our children’s lives. Rather,we should learn to cooperate with whatever Goddesires to do in our heart today, so our children willhave a front-row seat to the grace and goodness ofGod. Doing life with our children in a real and honestway allows them to experience God in a sincere way.We want parents to be very intentional with bringingfaith into their home. Here are some examples of how we are hoping toencourage parents to do this at home. We would liketo see parents introduce the lesson of the week athome first, before their child hears about it at church. It’s important to us that our kids see the church asbeing supportive and complimentary to what dadand mom are saying at home. We want our kids tosay, “Hey, my parents told me all about Daniel beingthrown into the lion’s den and how God protectedhim, because Daniel was a man who loved God verymuch and prayed every day.” Then together as afamily, they tried popcorn prayer this week and usedtheir prayer flip chart every night at supper to pray. We’d love to hear a little boy share about how his dadtaught him how to pray in every situation – becauseduring their bedtime prayer routine, dad shared hisheart on how he struggled with being angry at workthat day. We’d love to hear how mom taught herchildren how to pray while they were driving aroundthe city – because when they saw an ambulance goby with its lights on, they pulled over and prayedfor the person in need. God gives us hundreds ofopportunities to teach our children what it means tohave a relationship with Him. We want to encourageconscious parenting, where parents are aware and areactually seeking out these opportunities so that theirchildren will have a “front-row seat to the grace andgoodness of God”. We want parents to feel equippedand prepared to capitalize on these opportunities asthey arise. This is what faith at home can be!Parents, I hope that something listed above hasresonated deep within you! It is my prayer that eachone of us will seriously take up this challenge topartner with the church, to be the spiritual leaders inour child’s life, and to bring faith into our home. As wedo this together, we’ll see God raise up a generationof children who love Him more deeply, who seekHim more intimately, and who put their completetrust in Him. Joe and I are excited, we’re eager, andwe’re inspired to be a part of this great mission… howabout you?Needed: Infant CareRe-Stocking TeamWe are currently looking for four people tocome on board with a four-week rotationschedule to help re-stock infant care. I asked God recently if what I dovolunteering on Sundays with the toddlers ismaking a difference? This is what He broughtto me: it was a memory of my own childhood, the first time I had ever been brought tochurch. I remembered the building - thesanctuary, the basement where Sunday schoolwas held. I remembered the craft we did - akite. I remembered the people, one womanin particular and how kind she was. And Iremembered the overwhelming sense of a warmPresence in this place. The Lord spoke to me atthis point and He said, “Allison, that Presencewas my Holy Spirit and this memory is my firstmeeting with you letting you know how muchI loved you and cared for you.” This memory isfrom when I was 2 1/2 years old. Ever prayed that God would let you knowwhat He has planned for you and then sat back inamazement as you watched His plan unfold? I surehave! Before June, I had NO idea that ‘Pastor to K-6Families’ was in my future, but God did.Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have foryou,” declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and notto harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”Teaching has been my profession for the past manyyears, a job I loved. However, God planted a seed inmy heart about working at CrossRoads Church, andonce my eyes were opened to the possibility, it washumbling and revealing to see how God was workingout His plan in my life. Pieces were falling into placeand obstacles were being removed so easily that myhusband commented that he could not understand, aside from God, how I was so at peace with leavingteaching. There was no other explanation. John 14reminds me that God is faithful and I will have peaceif I trust in Him. Trusting in His plan for my life is notalways easy, but it sure has been a blessing to feel Hispeace, sense His presence and see His plans. Sr. High MinistryPastor Jordan Cavanaugh (JordanC@CrossRoadsChurch.ca)Dallas Smith (DallasS@CrossRoadsChurch.ca)Stories from Romaniaby Rachel Huizingher arms around me giving me the biggest and most heartfelthug, like she was holding me for dear life. I was so shockedand didn’t know what to do in that moment but just hug herback with all the love and happiness I felt right then. We justwalked with our arms around each other the rest of the way.Her name is Carmen. Soon another young woman joined in,and all I could feel was compassion for the beauty of thesewomen’s hearts. In the North American culture that I have experienced, a lot ofjudgement is based on what we look like, how we do things, and the things we have or have not done. And I would be lyingif I said that I have never got caught up in it. As I was transitioninginto Romanian-Gypsy culture I felt uneasy because I wasexpecting this “judgement” to come into play when the villagerswould meet us for the first time. Truthfully, and personallyI can say that I have been affected by the way people “judge”- feeling insecure about what other people think of me. I wasexpecting them to be very skeptical of our team, and our missionin Momaia as well. But on one of our very first days in thevillage, we took a walk through their streets, and suddenly allmy doubts and insecurities vanished becauseof one woman’s smile. Our team was swarmed with children left, right, and centre the minute we steppedinto the streets. But I was not in that situation,I was walking alone with no child runningup to me like they had to the others. Iquickly started to become discouraged aswe kept walking, and soon I felt insecurethat maybe none of the children wouldlike me, and that I wasn’t someone whoappeared “cool” to them. I started askingGod the question of why that was as wekept walking. But suddenly I looked aheadto my right and saw a young woman getthe biggest smile on her face and comecharging right into my arms. She wrappedThe incredible thing Ifind now was, that verymorning I had beenpraying for the village, and God showed me animage of a rushing windof love blowing throughthe valleys to the streetsthrough the village. Iprayed for a love encounterfor the peoplein the village, and theincredible thing I foundwas that, God gave me alove encounter throughthose young ladies, when all I wanted wasto express how muchI have for them. I was humbled through that experience becauseit is amazing that someone who doesn’t know a thingabout me, someone who doesn’t know my weaknesses andstrengths, who could care less what I looklike, could just love me for all that I am, forjust being a creation of God. It is so significantbecause it revealed God’s love ina more real and tangible way. God knowsall of you, every little detail of your life, thegood and bad, but simply remains to loveyou for this reason and because He has apurpose for you. It made me truly realizethat this is how we should love each other, not based on any sort of “judgement”, butsimply for one reason alone, because we area piece of the beauty of God. It’s a greaterthing than anyone can ever know, and thatwas what I got to experience each and everyday with the people in Momaia, and forthat I will always truly be grateful.Page 24THE CROSSING || October 2012 || www.CrossRoadsChurch.ca

It was a fresh and new beginningof healing from the immense sadness, loneliness andinitial shock of the death of my dad. This ministry is anexcellent program to give hurting people like myself achance to meet others who have been in a very similarjourney, who just get it. I also love how this program isChrist-centered - a big difference from other grief andloss groups that exist in the community. It is a greatfeeling to talk to other Christians who have had theirfaith tested when losing a loved one. I believe this groupallows the chance to rebuild faith, love and trust in theLord again after a death of a loved one. It is definitelytrue what they say about going to GriefShare: likefeeling a warm hug around you when you are shivering. This group is exactly what I needed to find my faith andpassion in Christ again and to find hope through deaththat we will be reunited with our loved ones one dayand all the pain, tears and suffering will no longer exist -just pure joy, love and happiness! Richelle.GriefShareevery Tuesday nightin Room 203 at7:00pmI believe that GriefShare is a vital new ministry atCrossRoads. It is so great that this program is held onan ongoing basis every Tuesday night throughoutthe year. Grief and loss can come into one’s life sounexpectedly! GriefShare is there with an open door tooffer encouragement and support. The DVDs presentreal people sharing their own personal experiences ofloss. The facilitators of the group are individuals who are‘walking the walk’ and not just ‘talking the talk’ aboutgrief as they each have experienced their own losses. Iwould encourage anyone struggling with the death of aloved one, whether it is recent or long past, to come toGriefShare. It is a place to find comfort and hope. Going half-way across the world againwas something that I was looking forwardto. I was somewhat expecting it to besimilar to our YWAM outreach in Indiathat we did last summer. I rememberedhow God moved in and through ourteam in powerful ways. The expectation of God to movepowerfully didn’t change, and the proofof that expectation was soon to follow. We stayed at the local Bible college thatwe were connected with in Chiang Rai,Thailand. The campus was beautiful. Thepastor and his family, along with all thestudents, were incredible! We soon had our schedule set before us. The next coupleof weeks would consist of teaching in the mornings at theBible college and doing ministry at churches, orphanages, children’s centres and schools. The people of Thailand,I soon found out, had something in common with thepeople of India - they were hungry for God. One of theBible college students said that they had been praying fora couple of years for a team to come and visit them and toteach and talk about God in the way that we did. We werean answer to their prayers!I remember one night where we had ministry at a churchservice. People were experiencing God in a powerful way. Some people who had known God for a long time weretouched by Him in a way that they had never experiencedbefore. People were crying, laughing, and were overjoyedas they were encountering God in a life-changing way.Looking at one man, I felt God speak to me about how Hewanted to use me to work in his life. So I talked with theman and soon found out that he had a muscle problemin his feet. His whole life he could never step backwardsmore than a couple of inches without completely fallingover. He also could never jump in his life because of theweak muscles in his feet. The team and I surrounded him and started praying. Godcompletely healed him on the spot! He began walkingbackwards normally and he started to jump. He wasabsolutely ecstatic! His friend commented to us that hehad never before been able to do that in his life. We prayedfor another man right after that. This man could never turnhis back or neck without excruciating pain. God healedhim completely too! Praise the Lord that we serve such anamazing and powerful God!Another time at a children’s centre, we shared about Godand His love for all the kids, and close to 200 kids decidedPage 28THE CROSSING || October 2012 || www.CrossRoadsChurch.ca

Outreach MissionsPastor Tracy Stover (TracyS@CrossRoadsChurch.ca)Kurtis Kooiker (KurtisK@CrossRoadsChurch.ca)to give their lives to the Lord! It trulywas a powerful time in Thailand as wegot opportunity after opportunity tominister to people and to see themencounter the love of God in a way likethey never had before.Since I am also a breakdancer, I wasable to have many opportunities touse that for ministry. I would oftendance and teach the Thai youth at theschool assemblies, orphanages, andat various churches. I realized that theskill of dancing created such an opendoor and a huge opportunity to talk topeople about Jesus and to minster tothem.God definitely taught me a lot on thistrip. It can be so easy to look at ourown ability to accomplish things andto get them done. But God showed mehow, when we rely on Him, His ability, and His strength, we can accomplish so much more! Iwould trade my strength for His strength any day! Praisethe Lord that in our weakness, He makes us strong!(2 Corinthians 12:9)I love that God desires so much for us to partner withHim in establishing His kingdom here on earth. Therewere many things that happened in Thailand, and Godworked through us in many different ways to movepowerfully. Out of all the healings, ministry times, andmiracles that we saw, by far the greatest was that peopledecided to give their lives to our Lord and to live for Him.God deserves all the glory, and I just want to thank all ofyou for your prayers and for your support. I know thatwithout you, things would not have been the same.Next, in Medicine Hat, at Global Prayer House, we arepreparing for our fall conference.
