SATURDAY 05 OCTOBER 2013High tide: 8.04am 1.64m | Water temperature: 18 o cAnthony Morris was in big trouble for persuading his friend Liya to swim in the rough water. She’sonly just joined the Club—we hope she returns!!Jim Grant said he ‘came for the conversation—not to swim’ and Sleuth agrees until at least next March!Penny Weiss caught a wave to manage a first for breastroke—she reckoned the steroids also helped.Whilst this didn’t happened today, it was interesting to note during the layoff season that Kenny Radin was seen busyocean swimming at Coogee and even swimming out to the island and the bommie at the north end of the beach. Weare expecting great times this season Kenny.SATURDAY 12 OCTOBER 2013High tide: 7.29am 0.56m | Water temperature: 19.5 o cAn informed anonymous source reported there had been no notes from Janice, Dorothee or Annette, missing in actionthis morning. The informed anonymous source said they were on Heron Island supposedly for an ocean swim.Luke Porter-Daly, acting as a VERY LOUD starter for some of this morning’s races, is definitely developing the ‘DalyBooming Voice’.Sampson Parkinson (AKA Michael) has diminished swimming talents since having his hair cut off during the week.El Presidente, Peter Court’s tummy seemed to have developed an intermittent beeping. However, it may just have beenhis malfunctioning stop watch. A time trial was held in Lane 2A.Jim Grant’s instruction in a backstroke race was ’...face the water…’.Chris Grant inheriting his dad’s talking/chatting gene was in no hurry to hand his ticket over.Philip Docherty was VERY pleased with his second place in the 50 yard butterfly. He did however admit there wereonly two in the race.Matt Mison proudly displayed his first place ribbon attached to his swimmers. Wearing it with pride he modestly sang‘no place for losers’.Three blue ribbons for Liya Wu today. Keep it up Liya—it does get easier!Joel Parkinson proudly told his father’s mother that he had won three ribbons today.VALE AMANDA LOUISE GREEN9 September 1960—4 October 2013The Club is very sad to report the death of Amanda Green.Amanda joined the Club in the 1968/69 season and swam formany years before becoming an ‘under stairs’ observer, sitting in the shade of the stairs, along with her mother, Veronica(Life Member). By this stage Amanda had been joinedby her daughter, Yvette who swam with the Club when shewas a youngster. Amanda was one of the famous Green family.Tim, a Life Member of the Club, is of course well knownto us all. Our heartfelt sympathy is with Tim and his family atthis time.Vol 19Issue 1October 2013| McDonald’s Encouragement Awards go to: Joel Parkinson, EvaBecker-Graham and Alex Davidson |
