2010 Hampton Court Palace Flower Showexhibitors from SurreyFor more information and regular updates about exhibitors and the 2010Hampton Court Palace Flower Show please register on the RHS press portal at:press.rhs.org.ukRichard Golding Garden Design“The Urban Retreat”Exhibitor Type: Show GardenSite number: GW/14Contact name: Richard GoldingContact number: 01483 225412Contact email: richard@rgolding.comWebsite: www.rgolding.comAddress: St. Anne, Tuckey Grove, Ripley, Woking, Surrey, GU23 6JGThe garden has been designed to provide a retreat where one can relax and escape the pressuresof everyday modern living. It is primarily intended for a busy working couple, provides space forentertaining, but is also family friendly; safety measures have been incorporated in the design ofthe water feature. The fences are two metres high to provide screening but to afford improved visitor viewing of theshow garden. The garden contains two structures made from locally sourced Oak: arches toprovide support for the climbing plants whilst also framing the soft curves of the pathway. The gazebo is the structure which forms a focal point and draws the eye within the garden as wellas providing a secluded place to sit and relax on warm sunny days. The water feature consists of two sandstone globes, the smaller globe being places upon the largernestled among pebbles again echoing the curves of the paving design. The water is pumped upthe centre and flows over the globes producing a soothing sound to quieten the urban hum, drawing your focus away from the outside world and back to the natural environment.Paul and Tom HarfleetThe Pansy Project Garden

Exhibitor Type: Conceptual GardensSite number: A/114Contact name: Paul HarfleetContact number: 07870 244 153Contact email: pjharfleet@hotmail.comWebsite: www.thepansyproject.comAddress: Old Manor House, Chilworth, Guilford, Surrey, GU4 8NEThe Pansy Project is an ongoing conceptual artwork that memorialises homophobic hate crimes, from verbal homophobic abuse to homophobic motivated murders. The design of the garden is afirst time collaboration with garden designer and brother of the artist Tom Harfleet, which initself suggests a shared familial position against homophobic hate crime enriching the reading ofthe garden. This challenging Conceptual Garden will combine the languages of horticulture and sculpture tometaphorically present the concepts ‘The Pansy Project’ explores to an audience outside of theproject’s usual context. In subverting the garden with a ‘disguised’ political agenda, the artisthopes to encourage the visiting public to consider the ideas, from notions of psycho-geography,memorialisation, citizenship and the political ownership of public space. The brothers have used their allocated five by ten metre plot to construct a confrontationalconcrete structure that references the pavement of the city; where the majority of The PansyProject’s activity takes places. The dramatic ‘shattered’ form reflects the disruptive nature ofthese crimes and has been influenced by the impact earthquakes have on the built environment. The slabs of concrete will be placed at various extreme gradients and will be under-planted with atotal of four thousand pansies.Anita Smith“The end is where we start from”Exhibitor Type: Sustainable GardensSite number: B/7Contact name: Anita SmithContact number: 01483 418785Mobile number: 07778654186Contact email: anitasmithdesigns@tiscali.co.ukWebsite: www.anitasmithdesigns.comAddress: 31 Manor Fields, Milford, Godalming, Surrey, GU8 5EQInspired by a line of poetry by T.S. Elliot “The end is where we start from,” an Oak tree stands inpastureland where the grasses ripple in the wind. Beneath it are a series of carved oak sculpturescreated by artist Ruth Wheeler, depicting the life cycle of an oak. There is an area of wild flowerssymbolising a stream and another of mulch and acorns, with Oak seedlings growing in it. Thefallen branch is carved with the quote and placed within this area. All these elements work together to symbolise that endings often become new beginnings for usthat things go full circle. The garden is planted with native British plant life to attract a diversetype of wildlife and insects. The swathes of wild flowers have been chosen to symbolise a stream reinforcing the theme ofendings becoming beginnings. The grasses give a natural feel and movement to the garden. Theyoung Oak seedlings also symbolise new beginnings.

This design has been created with the charity Greenfingers in mind - an exciting environmentwith a touch of adventure for children to enjoy. The prehistoric theme seemed an obvious choicegiven the fact that many children love dinosaurs. The main aim is to create a ‘den’ like space for children to hide and play in using containers asthe main structure. Mainly carnivorous plants and ferns are used to create a primal environment.Four columns of car/bicycle tyres have been used to create a texture which suggests dinosaur skinor scales.A branch planted with ferns, orchids and carnivorous plants will be attached across the containersto create a canopy for the den and the columns of tyres are surrounded with various ferns andplants to camouflage the space.Jayne Thomas Garden Design Ltd“A Midsummer Nights Dream”Exhibitor Type: Shakespeare Comedies GardensSite number: D/99Contact name: Jayne ThomasContact number: 0208 398 0920Mobile number: 07762 023761Contact email: tjayne@btconnect.comWebsite: www.jayne-thomas-garden-design.co.ukAddress: 53 Speer Road, Thames Ditton, Surrey, KT7 0PJA Midsummer Night’s Dream is a play involving three stories which unfold and develop throughthe intervention of the fairies’ magical powers. Four sets of lovers, a band of actors and a fairystory pass through the forest and become entangled due to the mischief of Puck. All stories have aunified theme of love and marriage - true love overrides the difficulties presented by both theforest and life. The forest itself is represented by woodland plants typical of an English mixed woodland, whichwere loved by Shakespeare and are referenced in the play. The woodland trees are planted within an Elizabethan style parterre garden which would havebeen typical in Shakespearean times. The parterre is designed using four closed wing butterflieswhich represent the four sets of lovers in the play. Planting in the wings is made up from serriedranks of grasses with tracery patterns outlined with flowers. The wings are decorated withherbaceous flowers.Four paths lead to the centre of the garden where there is a love seat under the oak tree. This iswhere, in the play, Titania wakes up enamoured with love for Bottom, even though his head hasbeen transformed into that of a donkey. The love seat is where the love potions are applied byPuck by mistake to one of the young lovers, and by Oberon to Titania.Seale NurseriesExhibitor Type: Rose FestivalSite number: RF/10Contact name: C MayContact number: 01252 782410Contact email: catherine@sealenurseries.demon.co.uk
