Usually, thecrack originates in the deepest part of the of the occlusalbox and runs diagonally out under a cusp.The signs andsymptoms of a cracked tooth include sensitivity to temperaturechanges, to sugar, or tenderness on biting.Generally, a cracked tooth cannot be detected clinically orradiographically.Therefore, it can be difficult to diagnoseor to localize the tooth or cusp. Dentists have used variousimplements to locating a cracked cusp.These, amongother things, include cotton rolls, wood sticks and metalinstruments.All of these implements have limitations.Fracfinder is an indispensable instrument for the practiceof modern dentistry. It is an instrument that simplifieslocating cracks in tooth. Locating cracks with Fracfinderis quick and precise.To locate the crack, place the smallindentation of the Fracfinder on suspected cusp.Ask thepatient to apply pressure while gently biting on the suspectedcusp(s). Fracfinder provides force when the patientbites down on the instrument. Cracked cusp is then locatedeasily, rapidly and precisely.Fracfinder can also be used for applications such as seatingcrowns, fixed prosthesis, and tapping on teeth.• Small indentation on theFracfinder is to be placedon the suspected cusp.• The opposite side of theindentation is grooved forbetter control on the cusp.• The opposite end ofFracfinder features asmall indentation.• Utilizing indentationto seat a crown.Fracfinder Blue is a sturdy instrument made of a rigidautoclavable material. Fracfinder Blue will provide years ofusage without getting chewed up. Eventually, after years ofusage and autoclaving, it may discolor. It is a long lastinginstrument.• Placing Fracfinder on the suspected cusp.Fracfinder Colors are available in color green, pastelblue, pink, purple and white. Fracfinder Colors aremade of a soft autoclavable material. In time they may getchewed up and are not as long lasting as Fracfinder Blue.
