TumbleBook Library is an on-line collection of animated, talking picture books that teach children the joy of reading
in a format they’ll love. TumbleBooks are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and
narration to produce an electronic picture book that children can read, or have read to them.
Ross Doan P.S. Library has subscribed to the TumbleBook Library. The collection can be accessed on-line from every
computer in our school and from home through a direct link.
This Month @ Our Library
February has been an especially busy month in the Ross Doan Library. Our Forest of Reading Programs,
sponsored by the Ontario Library Association, were launched immediately following Family Literacy Week, and
every since, students in kindergarten through grade 4 have been busy reading Blue Spruce and Silver Birch
books.
Our grades 3 and 4 students have been having fun “moodling” each other, as well as our teacherlibrarian,
Mrs. Blackman. Moodle is short for “modular object-oriented dynamic learning environment.” By
accessing our school’s online Moodles, students are able to share thoughts about the Silver Birch books they’ve
been reading, even on weekends. Students’ blogs are then read by their fellow Silver Birch readers who in turn
reply to their peers’ entries. It’s been an exciting interactive e-learning experience for all!
GREETINGS FROM YOUR TRUSTEE
It is my honour and privilege to serve you as Trustee for York Region District School Board, Richmond Hill Wards 3,5,6. As a
resident of this community for over 20 years, I believe strongly in the partnership of community, family and school in the
educating of our next generation. Many of us know the African proverb, “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child”. We achieve our
best when we all collaborate and work together to provide our children with welcoming schools and safe, supportive
environments. As I shared with you during my campaign, my goals as a trustee are:
To foster strong community and school partnership
To promote safe and healthy schools
To ensure all children get a chance to succeed
To support schools in encouraging in students a strong sense of citizenship.
Your children are enrolled in schools that belong to one of the most successful school boards in Ontario. They are being
taught and cared for by some of the best teachers and staff. Students who are most successful are those who also receive
continuous support and encouragement from their families. During this critical growth period in their young lives they need
their families more than ever to help prepare them for life on our changing world community. I encourage all parents to:
Parent with love and understanding
Provide positive role models
Participate in children’s academic and ‘empathy’ development
Practice partnership in your school and community.
The upcoming Chinese New Year will be the year of Rabbit, which signifies peace, wisdom and health. These are my wishes to
you all.
Please note that the bus loop at the front of the school is a No Parking
Zone as it is a Fire Route.
Parents who are picking up children for appointments throughout the day, dropping
off items or visiting Ross Doan should not park in this area.
We are requesting that this area be kept clear in case of emergency. All cars should
be parked either in our parking lot to the west of the school, on the south side of
Weldrick Avenue or on Avenue Road.
The Town of Richmond Hill will be monitoring this area. Vehicles that are parked in
the bus loop will receive a parking fine issued by the Parking Bylaw Department.
We appreciate your understanding and consideration for the safety of Ross Doan
staff and students.
