high temperature, we adapted the drilling rig Noble Ronald Hoope andused equipment especially suited for the job. We drilled a so-calledside-track to the Sierra-prospect from an existing well. The SubsurfaceTeam of the Exploration & Development Department had collected thenecessary data and interpreted this in order to determine the exactdrilling location. Nothing was left to chance. The drilling fluids, drill bitsand cement were selected with care and tested extensively, and allthose who would be directly involved followed a two-day course givenby an instructor who works for an organization that has substantialexperience in this type of drilling activities. As expected, we foundgas at an extremely high pressure between 1020 and 1030 bar anda temperature of no less than 183 degrees Celsius. After testing, weclosed off the well in such a way that we will be able to use it later as aproduction well. When we drilled this well we were – in terms of pressureand temperature – in the extreme ranges for the North Sea area.It was a challenging and an exciting drilling experience not only for us,but also for our suppliers – with a fantastic outcome.”the so-called Grand Prize in the category ‘Field Operations’. The important advantage of this is thatefficient use is made of the working hours, that no time is lost on ‘interfield’transportation and that we achieve considerable savings in flighthours.Practice has already shown that the OAS-system is a success. Thisdid not go unnoticed in Paris.
