It also acts as a carrier and filling materialin which gas circulates through the blast furnace chargecolumn.Foundry cokeIn terms of its qualities, foundry coke is similar to the blast furnacevariant. Foundry coke is currently not only used for castiron production; it is also a highly sought-after fuel in the productionof basalt-based insulation materials. Compared to blastfurnace coke, foundry coke differs primarily in its higher rigidityand higher lumpiness. The comparably higher quality of foundrycoke makes it suitable for the production of pig iron. On the otherhand, blast furnace coke is not suitable for the smelting of castmetals without prior adjustments in the full range to the smeltingtechnology.9
