Stainless Steel ­ Brushed FinishMaterial PropertiesStainless steel is the generic name for anumber of different steels used primarily fortheir resistance to corrosion. The one keyelement they all share is a certain minimumpercentage of chromium of 10.5%. Althoughother elements, particularly nickel andmolybdenum, are added to improve corrosionresistance, chromium is always the decidingfactor. However, despite its various additionsstainless steel still behaves as steel and eventhe highly alloyed stainless steel grades such as316 still contain a minimum of 62% iron.Gloster manufactures using 304 grade stainlesssteel with a fine brushed finish - the industrystandard for outdoor products. However, aswith any item left permanently outside,stainless steel furniture requires regularmaintenance to keep it looking as new. Beforethe furniture leaves our factory the welds areground flush and the surface is polished withScotchbrite, usually in the long direction of thelegs or rails. This provides a smooth, resistantsurface that is easy to clean and maintain.Although stainless steel is generally resistant tocorrosion, the surface is susceptible tocosmetic deterioration by the effects of saltwater and air-borne chemicals and this mayresult in small brown spots appearing on itssurface (this process is likely to be acceleratedin coastal areas). These spots in no way affectthe strength, integrity or longevity of thefurniture, they are simply superficialdiscolourations that require cleaning to restorethe stainless steel to its original appearance.

Stainless Steel ­ EP FinishMaterial PropertiesGloster’s electropolished (EP) finish is offeredas a premium alternative to our standardbrushed finish or for furniture used in coastalenvironments.Electropolishing is widely used in theelectronics, food and medical industries and oncomponents for cruise ships and yachts, wherea corrosion resistant, smooth and easy tomaintain surface is of vital importance.Electropolishing is an electrochemical processwhereby the combination of an electricalcurrent and a strong acid erodes the surface ofthe stainless steel substrate atom by atom. Thisprocess removes much of the iron from thesurface of the steel, but leaves the chromeintact, resulting in more shiny, but muchimproved corrosion resistant surface.

Before using Stainless Steel Cleaner &Polisher, protective gloves (included in box) andeye protection should be worn. Cover theground under your working area beforecleaning.2. Shake bottle before use.3. Apply Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polisher witha scrubbing pad (included in box).4. Brush the furniture clean with this scrubbingpad.5. Apply Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polisheragain with a soft cloth (included in box). Allowto soak for 1 minute.A haze will develop.6. Buff to a shine with a soft, clean and drycloth.

If any brown spots appearon the stainless steel they can be easilycleaned by gently rubbing the surface of thesteel, in the direction of the brushed finish,with the Scotchbrite pad.If these deposits are allowed to build up, thenit may be necessary to clean the product morethoroughly with Gloster's Stainless SteelCleaner & Polisher, which cleans and restoresthe new look of stainless steel furniture andmakes the surface repellent to both dirt andwater.Instructions for Use1. Before using Stainless Steel Cleaner &Polisher, protective gloves (included in box) andeye protection should be worn. Cover theground under your working area beforecleaning.2. Gently rub the surface of the steel, in thedirection of the brushed finish, with theScotchbrite pad.3. Apply Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polisher witha soft cloth (included in box).4. Buff to a shine with a soft, clean and drycloth.
