Principals Reena Sotropa and Jacqueline Corea metwhile in design school and found that their combined similarities and differencescould offer a new approach to interiors. When they first entered the scene in Calgarymore than a decade ago, Reena and Jacqueline found that the status quo of mostresidences involved an uninviting dose of dark and masculine colours. Their fresh andundoubtedly happier approach to design has caused the firm to stand out from therest—clients often will seek out Reena and Jacqueline’s expertise for their decidedlydifferent approach. One look at their interiors and it’s easy to identify a few hallmarks of the firm:generous portions of natural light, colourful expressions and flexibility. These attributesare further enhanced by a varied group of generally well-traveled homeowners. Thearea’s youth and vitality is matched by clients’ eagerness to incorporate internationalpieces they’ve collected during their journeys. Reena and Jacqueline also recognize thatinteriors can have a youthfulness within them that travels through the years. Since manyfamilies are listed among their clientele, Reena and Jacqueline ensure these interiors areboth beautiful and practical. After working with clients, reviewing magazine clippings, fabric swatches, etc., the principals are able to concentrate and mold a project’s designthat is indicative of their clients’ lifestyles, while also leading them into currentdesign choices.AboveThis light-filled master bathroom features a classic slipper tub, custom vanities and heatedlimestone floors for those chilly winter mornings.Photograph by John GaucherFacing PageDesigned with warm rich colours and textures, this cozy family room boasts a spectacular view ofFish Creek Park. Having worked in corporate design—a field that bothprincipals agree is quite a departure from home interiors—Reena and Jacqueline eagerly absorb all the intricaciesand more personal aspects to designing a residence.Watching their clients as they first walk into a completedhome is quite possibly the most rewarding aspect—therelationships sometimes even evolve into meaningfulfriendships past the completion of a project. These sameclients are usually the first to recommend friends andfamily to the professional, fun and approachable designersat Corea Sotropa Interior Design.Top LeftThis fun family space is located in the basement level of thehome.
