As my first year as President I am veryhumbled and honored to represent such a prestigious community event.Agribition is a multifaceted world-class trade, education and entertainment attractionwith something for everyone. Agribition is, and always will be, the best beef show onthe continent and the largest livestock show in Canada. Agribition remains focused onmarketing Canada’s agriculture products to the world. We are continuing to expand ouroffering to include grain, agri-business and cultural experiences. For me, Agribition has always been about family; the family of exhibitors, the familyof volunteers and the family of staff. A very special, “Thank You” needs to go out to thesethree groups. It’s finally here! 200 staff and 400volunteers have been preparingfor the 43rd edition of CanadianWestern Agribition for the entire year.We have a strong volunteer base thathave worked hard to assemble over90 individual events throughout sixdays of Agribition. Agribition is oneof Regina’s signature events, andwe continue to grow and appeal toa broader audience with somethingfor everyone. The show has many improvementsand additions this year. Manyof these additions are featuredthroughout this show guide. I encourage you to read forward and seehow we have managed to raise the bar on everything from cattle to musicto education. The real story this year is infrastructure. For many who frequent ourtrade show and take advantage of the Machinery Mall or do some oftheir Christmas shopping in the Everyday Living Marketplace, theinfrastructure is first class. The livestock facilities, however, do not meetthe expectations of a world class event. We have spent the last yearworking on a long-term solution to address these tired assets, and somegreat progress is being made. This year close to $1.1 million dollars has been put into upgradesto improve the West side assets. A complete roof repair of the CanadaCentre was completed including lighting upgrades. The Stockman’sArena received a new floor, and the newly named Stock Exchange hasupgraded heating and lights to accommodate the launch of The Yardsat Agribition. We hope these capital improvements will go a long wayto improving the visitor and exhibitor experience at the show as wellas showing our international guests we are the best beef show in NorthAmerica.Even though we have made some progress, more work is being doneon a long-term solution to the infrastructure. The show is currentlyfinalizing the business plan, in conjunction with the City of Regina, todevelop a permanent solution to the ailing buildings on Barn Road.Replacing this infrastructure is a must for the show to be successful.Agribition visitors will also see construction starting on the newFootball Stadium on the South East corner of the grounds. The largestimpact on our show will be the loss of usable parking space as a resultof this massive construction project. We are working on solutions tohelp with this issue including shuttle bus programs and off-site parkingsolutions for exhibitors and visitors. The show continues to see growth in livestock, trade show, andentertainment for the whole family. We are proud of the enhancementswe have made at this year’s show and welcome you to experience allAgribition offers.Welcome to the show!8 Canadian Western Agribition 2013 Official Show GuideMarty Seymour,CEO of Canadian Western Agribition

Proud to beCanadian Western Agribition – Back to Regina’sAgriculture RootsE ver wonder how an event builton rural pride can survive in a big urbancentre like Regina? It’s easy. Buildan experience based on tradition, prestige, and inclusiveness; wrap itin a bow and do it every year for 43years. Sprinkle in 5,000 kids, internationalvisitors from over 60 countries, add a touch of cow, a pinch ofhorse, and blend in the biggest consumertradeshow one month beforeChristmas and you have CanadianWestern Agribition. There is something about agriculturethat takes us back to a simplertime. One has to look hard to find aresident from Saskatchewan whodoesn’t have a connection with rurallife. Many may reminisce aboutweekends at their grandparents runningin the hay loft, feeding the cows,or sitting on an open station tractor. The magic behind Agribition is theconnection with our inner soul’s needto feel part of something meaningful, innocent, and noble.Agribition’s value can be measuredin terms of economic impact. 125,000visitors have an economic impact justshy of $40 million annually on thecommunity. This is like having a GreyCup in town every single year. Most Regina residents know thestore shelves will be left bare whenAgribition wraps up and the trailersand the trucks head back totheir respective farms and ranchesfor the long winter. The economicsare simple. This big event equalsbig bucks for local business owners.“We look forward to showcasing ourcity to the many visitors from acrossCanada and around the world whowill attend Agribition. This week isalways a highlight for our city as wecelebrate our agricultural roots,” saidMichael Fougere, Mayor of Regina. It’s not all about the money. Like abig oak tree, the roots of the show aredeep and stem right back to the simplestof foundations. The social andcultural benefits of the show make itpart of Regina’s psyche.“Agribition is about families andfamily values. I love to see smilingkids interacting with the animals.”said Robert Stroeder, GeneralManager of Denny’s Restaurant inRegina. “Where else can city folk geta chance to experience agriculture insuch an inviting setting?”All of us are social, by nature.Naturally, we gravitate to activitiesand places that create a sense of belonging. The ‘Legends of the Swamp’,six nights of rodeo action, or beers inthe Bud Light Loading Chute have afew things in common – smiling faces, handshakes, and outlandish talesof heroism echo through the venuescreating a cascade of new memoriesrouted in the traditions of Regina’sbiggest social event of the year.If you haven’t already connectedthe dots, Agribition is about culture.Regina was founded on agriculture, and although Regina is growing beyondits cultural roots as it expandsinto a booming metropolis, the linkof six days of the unique sights andsounds of Agribition pulls Reginaback to simpler time when familiesworked and played together.10 Canadian Western Agribition 2013 Official Show Guide

Modern DayCowboy Mounted Shooting is one of the fastest growingequestrian sports in Canada! The sport started in Arizona in the1990’s and is steadily becoming a popular equine sport.“We travel all around the world looking for entertaining events combining athletesand animals.” said Marty Seymour, CEO of Canadian Western Agribition. “We havebrought a real crowd pleaser back with us this time!”Cowboy Mounted Shooting is similar to barrel racing but with guns. Competitors mustride their horses through a pattern while using two single action revolvers to shoot at 10target balloons, firing all along the way. Competitors are given a five second penalty forevery balloon they miss. The fastest competitor wins!“Nothing could be more exciting than the speed of barrel racing with a taste of the wildwest.” said Cain Quam, cowboy competitor. “Six guns blazing at interactive targets. Froma spectators or a competitor’s standpoint, this truly is the most exciting equine sport on theplanet!”Competitors use authentic .45 single-action revolvers, which are modeled after the kindused in the late 1800’s. Since the revolvers are single-action, the rider must cock the guneach time they wish to fire. The revolvers are loaded with blank rounds that contain coarseblack gun powder. This powder is so coarse that it can pop a balloon up to 15 feet away.Cowboy Mounted Shooting, sponsored by Cabela’s will take place on November 16 at9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the Brandt Centre. Meets Hi-Tech – it’s the best ofboth worlds at a Ritchie Bros. auction.By: Andrew EngelhardtA uctions have been a popularmethod of buying and selling everythingfrom wine and art to equipmentand livestock for centuries. It’s easy to see why: buyers get thechance to compete and set marketpricing, and everyone gets to enjoythe show.Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers—host ofthe annual Winners Circle AuctioneerCompetition at Agribition—has beenat the forefront of the equipment auction business for more thanfifty years selling farming, construction, transportation and othertypes of equipment and trucks.According to Jordan Clarke, Ritchie Bros.’ Saskatoon-basedRegional Sales Manager, “People love auctions. They’re exciting, competitive, and the chance to get a good deal keeps buyers comingback. And the whole atmosphere – the auctioneer’s chant, thecrowd – creates momentum that gets good returns for sellers inthe end.”Ritchie Bros. recognizes that the traditional live auction will alwaysdraw crowds, and that technology can be used effectively tomake it easier and more convenientfor buyers to participate. In 2002,Ritchie Bros. pioneered technologythat allows people to bid online inreal time as the auction is happening.Today the average Ritchie Brosauction attracts 1,760 bidders, with60% participating online.“The internet has dramaticallychanged the auction business in thatit’s brought the market right to ourcustomers’ offices and kitchen tables. It gives buyers access to equipment they couldn’t get before, and sellers benefit from more out-of-region bidders competing fortheir equipment, which results in better returns.”Don’t miss the Winners Circle Auctioneer Competition presentedby Ritchie Bros. on Tuesday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m.in the Chevrolet GMC Stadium.
