Cosplay Rules1a. Costumes, Registration <strong>and</strong> Performance- Signups take place before <strong>the</strong> <strong>cosplay</strong> contest via sign up forms or on <strong>the</strong> day <strong>and</strong> are closedan hour before <strong>the</strong> contest at 6:30pm. Thereafter signups are only allowed at <strong>the</strong> organiser'sdiscretion.- You must turn up half an hour before <strong>the</strong> contest is due <strong>to</strong> start at <strong>the</strong> main stage at 7pmlatest. If you turn up after this time <strong>the</strong>n we can not guarantee you will be entered.- All types of costume may be entered within reason but it must be gaming <strong>the</strong>med for you <strong>to</strong>be eligible <strong>to</strong> be judged for a prize.- The competitions are open <strong>to</strong> all ages unless o<strong>the</strong>rwise stated.- A h<strong>and</strong> made costume must be 80% your own work, <strong>and</strong> we do check! Bought costumes (asa whole or separately-acquired outfit from a shop or from e-bay) are allowed but must enter<strong>the</strong> non-judged category. This category is for you just <strong>to</strong> show off <strong>and</strong> have fun!- It is preferred that entrants provide a reference picture if <strong>the</strong>y wish <strong>to</strong> be judged for <strong>the</strong> MainPrize. This should be emailed in advance or delivered when signing up for <strong>the</strong> event itself.You should also provide your own music, attached with your registration or emailed shortlyafter. Our judges accept no responsibility for not being able <strong>to</strong> recognise your character if youfail <strong>to</strong> provide a reference picture.- If you are performing a skit, all sound must be pre-recorded <strong>and</strong> emailed before <strong>the</strong> closingdate for entries. Staff have <strong>the</strong> right <strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>p a skit at any time if it becomes inappropriate. Themaximum skit length is two minutes for an individual entry <strong>and</strong> three minutes for a group.- You may be filmed or pho<strong>to</strong>graphed during <strong>the</strong> masquerade <strong>and</strong> <strong>Anime</strong>league or <strong>the</strong> eventmay wish <strong>to</strong> use your image for promotional purposes. By entering <strong>the</strong>se events you agree <strong>to</strong>this.1b. Judging CriteriaCostumes will be judged in three areas by our professional judging team;Costume Design, <strong>the</strong> quality of <strong>the</strong> costume <strong>and</strong> how well it is madeCharacter Score, how much of a resemblance <strong>the</strong> costume <strong>and</strong> contestant have <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>original; <strong>and</strong> how well you present <strong>the</strong> character's movements <strong>and</strong> mannerismsAudience Score, Takes in<strong>to</strong> account audience <strong>and</strong> performance reception

Props RulesAll weapons <strong>and</strong> props must be checked at <strong>the</strong> Cosplay desk on first arrival <strong>and</strong> approved bystaff before allowed in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> convention.Your prop may not be allowed <strong>to</strong> enter <strong>the</strong> Convention for one or more of <strong>the</strong> followingreasons:• Too large/unwieldy• Blocks corridors/doorways or is likely <strong>to</strong> hit or inconvenience o<strong>the</strong>rs• Too heavy- If it's heavy, it can hurt, especially if dropped• Too hard- No props made of hard wood, or any sort of metal• Too sharp or spiky- No sharp bits or edges, make sure <strong>the</strong>y're s<strong>and</strong>ed/rounded/padded/covered or o<strong>the</strong>rwiseprotected adequately• Too realistic- No realistic replica weaponry without obvious 'Blaze' (brightly coloured) tips <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>weapon itself being out of use, of course.• No weapons that can fire any sort of projectile, even foam darts or water, unless it can beshown <strong>to</strong> be empty <strong>and</strong>/or that only some parts have been used for <strong>the</strong> prop.• No actions which may lead event staff, attendees or members of <strong>the</strong> general public <strong>to</strong>believe you are in possession of a real live weapon, even at a distance. In <strong>the</strong>se cases it is no<strong>to</strong>nly up <strong>to</strong> our (Staff) discretion; we do also have Venue Security in place who will have <strong>to</strong>approve it.• No pyrotechnics, explosives (including cap-guns) or incendiary items• Actual weapons (including airguns, deactivated guns, blunted/sharp knives or swords, livebows or slingshots) are expressly prohibitedIn all cases, <strong>the</strong> weapon or prop must be no longer than 1.6 m (5.2ft). Any items longer thismay be used in <strong>the</strong> Masquerade only <strong>and</strong> must be h<strong>and</strong>ed in <strong>to</strong> Registrations & Help Desk forsafekeeping until <strong>the</strong>n. If <strong>the</strong>y are not h<strong>and</strong>ed in prior <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Masquerade <strong>the</strong>y will not bepermitted in <strong>the</strong> event itselfPlease know that <strong>the</strong>se <strong>rules</strong> are here <strong>to</strong> assure we have a safe Conventions for both Staff <strong>and</strong>Attendees. If you have been asked <strong>to</strong> put your prop away please be so kind <strong>and</strong> do so or in anextreme case you might risk being escorted from <strong>the</strong> Convention.A general safe rule is;‘If you were <strong>to</strong> be hit with it repeatedly, would it break before you do?’- If your answer is ‘no’ here <strong>the</strong>n it means that someone could get hurt were this <strong>to</strong> happen. Inwhich case we would recommend you leave it at home just so you don’t get disappointedonce at <strong>the</strong> Convention.If you are in doubt whe<strong>the</strong>r or not you would be allowed <strong>to</strong> bring your prop please sendpho<strong>to</strong>s <strong>and</strong> a description of <strong>the</strong> prop <strong>to</strong> <strong>cosplay</strong>@animeleague.com3.
