ENGLISHEnsure that the chimney or flue is structurally sound. Inparticular, it must not be possible for products ofcombustion to come into contact with combustiblematerials in the structure of the building.In some situations it may be advisable to fit a flue linerprior to the installation of the stove. See fig. 1General safety precautionsDistance to wall made of flammable material andrequirements for the floor plate:Contact your local authorithy to inform you about the localcodes and to ensure that your installation is safe and legal.See fig. 1.Requirements for the floor plate: If the stove will beinstalled on a combustible floor, a robust, solid, noncombustiblelayer should cover the floor beneath the stove.This layer should cover an area of at least 300 mm in frontof the stove door, and at least 150 mm either side of theopening. (See Building Regulations.) We recommend thatyou contact the local Jøtul dealer prior to installation.Uninsulated flue pipe: If uninsulated flue pipes go throughfloors or walls, the opening must be made of brick ormasonry, in such a way that the external surface of thepipe does not get closer to flammable materials than 300mm. Isolated flue pipes may have a different distance, ifnecessary refer to fire technical product documentationfor the flue pipe.Measures to prevent firesAny use of the fireplace may represent some danger.Therefore, respect the following instructions:• Ensure that furniture and other flammable materialsdo not get too close to the fireplace. There ought to bea clear distance from the front of the fireplace of atleast 600 mm.• Let the fire die. Never put it out with water as this maydamage the product.• The fireplace gets warm when used and may causeburns if touched.• Ash must be properly disposed of outdoors, or emptiedwhere it does not entail a fire hazard. Refer to localregulations.• Any stove should have a storage container made of nonflammablematerial as a standard accessory for thesafe disposal of soot and ashes. Soot and ashes mustbe stored in this container for at least a week in orderto be certain that the last ember has been extinguished.If the container needs to be emptied before this, addplenty of water to the container and stir.• You may want to keep the ash. It is a first class fertilizerfor roses and other plants.Installation of Jøtul F 400Note! Check that the stove is free of any damage prior tocommencing installation.The product is heavy! Make sure you have assistance whenerecting and installing it.FoundationsIf Jøtul F 400 is to be installed on a wooden floor, ensure thatthe floor under the stove has the dimensions to carry it.ChimneyThe stove can be connected to a masonry chimney, a brick,pre-fabricated element or a steel chimney. See separatesection. Minimum chimney cross section is recommendedto be 177 cm 2 . (Corresponding to 150 mm dia.). Connectionto chimney must be done in accordance with the installationinstructions from the supplier of the chimney.Air circulationUsing a fireplace requires a plentiful supply of fresh air tothe room where the product is installed. If the house issealed, the room ought to be equipped with extra fresh airsupply through vents. Avoid using mechanical fan vents ina room with a fireplace. This may cause negative pressureand draw poisonous gasses into the room. In order to avoidthis, it is possible to bring in outside air directly to the stoveby using an adapter (extra unit) that is mounted to the air33
