In order to buy certain medicines, likeantibiotics, you must present a recent medical prescription, a document of identity and,in some cases, proof of residence. Prescriptions from other countries aren’t accepted inthe national pharmacies, only prescriptions from Brazilian doctors. Prescriptions fromother states of Brazil, depending on the medicine, aren’t accepted either.In Brazil, not pharmacists are authorized to prescribe medicines.Private Health NetworkIt is always preferred that the person responsible for the group or lodging contact ourCenter of Emergency and Information for all health related needs. If for any reason thisis not possible, this person should contact the Insurance Company directly: 0800 110872. This is necessary to insure coverage and for the person to know where to go to getattention.In the case of illness and emergenciesThe SUS (Sistema Único de Salud, Unique Health System) in Rio de Janeiro has approximately39 units of Quick Attention (UPA, Unidades de Pronta Atención) on hand, andEmergency Hospitals, located in various districts of the city which are available 24 hours.In the metropolitan region (Grande Rio) there are more than 11 units.
