Haskins began the manufacture of goldpens in Amherst. For several years his brother, J. C. Haskins,was associated with him in the business under the firm nameof Haskins Bros. Gold pens were manufactured in nearlyfifty different patterns. In 1867, by special act of the GeneralCourt, the Haskins Gold Pen manufacturing company wasincorporated, for the manufacture of pencils and gold pensin Shutesbury and Amherst.
