Aundrea L. of Portland, Oregon found this 1908$5 Gold Piece under the swings at a local park.She says the wood chips under the swings are agreat place to hunt.She attributes her “great luck” at metal detectingto her Classic ID - and digging everything whilesome of her hunting partners will ignore a brokenor faint signal. Aundrea even got her husbandhooked. After he saw all the great stuff she’sfound, he had to get his own metal detector!For a little over a year now mybrother, who lives on the other sideof the country in Vermont, has beentelling me stories about all thewonderful things he has beenfinding with his White's Classic ID.Every week or so in the summermonths the pictures would flow in,e-mail after email, each find betterthan the last. Enough is enough,and I decided that this year would be different. I purchased a White's Quantum® XT.We detected for one week over 8 hours a day and we had the most wonderful time wehave ever spent together, not to mention the incredible list of finds. Between the two ofus we found the following:1782 King George III Irish Half Penny, 1837 Canadian Bank Token Penny, 1847 USLarge Cent, 1901 and 1913 Barber Dimes, 1887 and 1906 Indian Head Pennies,1945 Mercury Dime, 1901 Epworth League Token,1887 Counterfeit Half Dollar(copper), 1923 Chambres De Commerce De France 1 Franc, 1945 P Silver War Nickel,21 Wheat Cents, 58 Cal. Minnie Ball, 2 Musket Balls, 2 Crotal Bells, 1 Railroad SwitchKey, 18th Century Door Key, 1 Grand Army of the Republic Button,1 Ox Shoe, 2 HorseShoes, and 1Spanish American War Silver plated spoon.The best find of all was my Model 1851 US Sword Belt Plate. I am now already on theairline website, planning my return trip later this year. I had beendetecting in a friend's cherry orchard and showed him thering the next day. The initials were N.S.T. and after a fewmoments he said that his mother's initials were N.S.T. She isstill alive and will be 88 this summer. He talked with herabout the ring and she said that she had given it to herfiancee in the spring of 1936 after she had received anengagement ring from him. He lost it later that summerwhile working in the orchard. She said that she was nothappy with him for losing it, since she had saved all herearnings to pay for it. This was during the depression whenjobs and money were hard to come by.The ring had been in the orchard for 68 years and hadbeen damaged by farming equipment. I had a jewelerstraighten and solder it together and it looked brand newwhen I returned it to her a week later. She was amazed thering was ever found and surprised at how nice it looks.
