(Africa)(patagonia)Bateman academy GroundsTwo siblings, Sophie and David, discover and release three amazingcreatures from special science jarshand made by famous naturalist AlbertDerwent. Ooble, Crunch and Barka are not ready forrepatriation so Sophie, with the help of Derwent’sBig Book, introduces them to her “Survival ofSpecies” program. They learn to avoid ProfessorVan Riceberger, his Jar Trackers and his assistantChang. The creatures have no plans to return home. They are out and there is no going back.(tasmania)

THE SHOWOoble, Crunch and Barka are three unique creatures fromobscure corners of the globe that share a single trait whichsets them apart from all other animals – they can talk.Collected over 150 years ago by famous scientist AlbertDerwent, they were hidden in special jars in a secret room –until Sophie and David found and released them.Sophie wants to release them back into their original habitatsso she introduces them to her Survival Of the Species (SOS)program. David, ever the showman, wants to train them to dotricks and keep them as pets. The Jar Dwellers have other plansthough... Ooble, Crunch and Barka can’t believe their luck. Themodern world is so exciting they don’t want to go back intothe wild.THE BIGBOOKLeft by Derwent on his desk, the fragile, dusty old BigBookcontains every observation the great scientist ever madeon the Jar Dwellers and is the basis of Sophie’s SOSprogram to rehabilitate the JDs and repatriate them intothe wild. While it contains much helpful information, it is also fullof gaps – due to having deteriorated with age and Derwentnot having time to complete his writings. It’s no easy task for these creatures to overcome theirdifferences, outsmart the kids, flunk Sophie’s SOS trainingprogram…and avoid the scientist who is obsessed withtracking them down – Professor Van Riceberger. So it’s animal cunning versus human brainpower in acomic struggle between the species, where there is notelling who will win and what will evolve.

BACK STORYFamous naturalist Albert Derwentcollected many weird and wonderfulspecies on his scientific expeditionsaround the globe, but none wereanything like the Jar Dwellers.Sneaking them back to his family’sestate, Derwent constructed a hiddenlaboratory under his old greenhouse. There he studied the creatures, jottingdown his observations and theories inthe BigBook as he went along.Derwent designed special jars in whichhe could store the Jar Dwellers in a kindof suspended animation in the lab. This would hide them and keep themsafe from the opportunistic VanRiceberger the Third.Eventually, Derwent’s family home wassold and became the Bateman Academy,an exclusive boarding school with aheavy emphasis on science.Derwent and his creatures were all butforgotten.Over one hundred and fifty years later,Sophie and David make the greatestscientific discovery of their own century. They would once again discover the JarDwellers...BARKA enjoys his natural habitat in tasmania, australiaooble Cracks a rocknut on the cliffs of patagoniaCRUNCH savours a tasty bone on an island off africa

CharactersDAVIDFrom the moment David meetsthe Jar Dwellers, it is a matchmade in heaven. David’s Barnumand Bailey circus-like approach tothem is a whole lot more fun thanSophie’s scientific one. It drivesSophie crazy when, after she begs, cajoles or even resorts to threatswith little or no results, the JDswill go along with pretty muchanything David says, just becauseDavid said it. This forces Sophie tobegrudgingly accept that David is avital part of her SOS program. And for David, they’re the closestthing to “pets” he may ever get.SOPHIEScience is in Sophie’s DNA. Bothher parents are scientists, so,when Sophie discovers Derwent’sBigBook it becomes her blueprint and her bible for completingher mission – to release the JarDwellers back into the wild andmake sure they survive. However, despite all the traveland adventures and discoveriesSophie has been a part of with herfamily, Sophie has never made anyreal close friends or been part of a‘scene’ in her entire life. Chang isalso a big fan.

CharactersVAN RICEBERGER THE VIIIHe’s arrogant, he’s thinks he’s brilliant,he’s a loner and he is broke.Van Riceberger the Eighth is descendedfrom a long line of unheralded scientificgeniuses and is determined to restorethe family name after the shame broughtupon them by the despised AlbertDerwent. He believes he can do thatby trapping the Jar Dwellers to provethey exist. Thanks to his great-greatgreatgrandfather’s journals, he hasbeen aware of the existence of the JarDwellers his entire life and it has beenhis life’s quest to find them. Too bad hedoesn’t know what they look like.Van Riceberger more often than notfinds himself at the end of the day in hisrecliner in his den, resting up his backand “communing” with the portraits of hisancestors that adorn the walls whilst hisassistant Chang relieves his back pain.CHANGOrphan and entrepreneur, the squat andenergetic Chang is a qualified Crashitzuchiropractor – which is the only reasonVan Riceberger has kept him around forten years. Never there when you needhim, Chang is less concerned with beingVan Riceberger’s intern than with makinga dollar, which is why he has many parttimejobs.Van Riceberger has promised Chang ashare of the fortune should they evercapture a Jar Dweller, so Chang throwshimself into Van Riceberger’s schemeswith gusto. Chang is the dedicated testpilot of Van Riceberger’s Jar Trackermachines.

the jar TRACKERSJar Tracker is the generic name forthe machines Van Riceberger inventsand builds to help him locate the JarDwellers. These machines work like ametal detector or Geiger counter andbeep with increasing frequency when theydetect a Jar Dweller, an article from a JDor something a JD has touched.Due to Van Ricerberger’s financialsituation, Jar Trackers are made fromconverted household appliances andfound objects. Some have wheels, someare worn and some are self-propelled,but they all usually have a screen, aradar scanner, a power source, andthey emit a beeping sound when a JD ispresent. For one reason or another, they usuallyself destruct by episode’s end.
