Minutes - <strong>Michael</strong> A. <strong>Kostek</strong> <strong>School</strong> Council MeetingThursday <strong>January</strong> 27, 2011Attendees: Bill Wright, Sandra Dickie, Ariana McMonagle, Melaine Sax, Lisa Darling,Cathy Vanstone, Ken Baidak, Svetlana Baidak, Laurie Chiasson, and James Doak1. Approval of Minutes: November 24, 2010 minutes approved by council members.2. Old Business: Question from Ariana McMonagle on whether the $65.33 damagedeposit paid for Christmas concert chair rentals will be returned. Ariana will touchbase with the office staff to get more information.3. Correspondence:• Discussion of the 2011 APEGGA Teacher Awards which recognizes 20 teachersin Alberta for math and science. The winning teachers would receive an awardand recognition and the school would receive $2000 to further science and matheducation. The nomination form will be posted to <strong>School</strong> Zone and appear in theschool newsletter. Sandra will e-mail Barb Oldach to ask for posting.• Literacy and Learning Day (NAIT) - A donation of $500 was made last year. Amatching donation for this year was approved by council members. Informationwill appear in school newsletter as well at www.literacyday.ca.4. Treasurer’s Report: Ariana reported a balance of $5735.42 in account to date.<strong>School</strong> photo rebate of $674.84 was received in <strong>January</strong> 2011, otherwise no activity toreport this month.5. Parents as Partners: Two upcoming events were discussed; Technology @ home(Monday, <strong>January</strong> 31, 2011) and GETCA parent evening called Dad’s Matter(Tuesday, March 1, 2011). Details regarding these two evenings can be found on theEPSB website and will be posted on <strong>School</strong> Zone.6. Family Ski Night: Cathy Vanstone discussed the decision to make this year’s familyski night on March 12, 2011 at Rabbit Hill a fundraising event. This changes the feefrom $16 to $20 to make more of a profit. However, there will not be an additionalcharge for helmet rental. This event is also open to family as well as friends. A notewill be going home with students soon.7. Fundraising:• It was requested by Cathy to add the Family Barbeque to the next school councilagenda.• She also reported a profit of $5900 from the magazine sales and a $4244 profitfrom the Safeway gift cards.• Cathy also requested a motion to spend the $37, 899 of funds received throughthe CIP technology grant. Sandra has requested the appropriate paperwork withthe details before approval.8. Principal’s Report: Please see attached.

Next Meeting: March 10, 2011 @ 7:00 pm, there will be no Council meeting inFebruary.PRINCIPAL’S REPORTPublic InputOur new Trustees are requesting public input into the District’s Vision, Mission, Beliefs andValues, and Priorities. In order to do so, go to the Edmonton Public’s website at www.epsb.caand follow the link.RegistrationRegistration for kindergarten will begin on February 1 st . We will also be accepting registrationsfor selected other grades as enrolment warrants.Net BooksOur complete order of net books has now arrived and we are certainly making good use of them!A huge thank you goes to MAK’s Educational Fundraising Group and all the parents who havesupported the fundraising initiatives. With your support, we have now greatly increased ourstudents’ access to technology.
