These travels help fulfill partof their studies.This year our akonga studyingMatauranga Maori will be travelling toRarotonga, Tahiti, Rapanui, and Hawaii.The research project was initiated2011. The focus of our travels is tounderstand our relationship with ourwhanaunga of Te Moana nui a Kiwa,their stories, tikanga and language. Whatwe also hope to do is track the story ofKupe and his journey from the Islands toAotearoa and back again. This researchproject will be completed in 2014, thoughakonga will continue onto their Masters.H i k o i M o t u h a k e 2 0 1 3inThe cost of carrying out this research willrange between $4-5k per akonga. Thiscosting is only for accommodation, carrentals and a portion for food. Eachakonga is expected to pay for their ownairline tickets which will cost an additional$5k.
