Wewill uphold the values and mana of ourpeople.ResearcherOur primary role will be to carry outresearch on <strong>Kupe</strong> and the link betweenMaori and the pacific people.AkongaOur whanau are members of theBachelor Matauranga Maori DegreeProgramme. These travels help fulfill partof their studies.This year our akonga studyingMatauranga Maori will be travelling toRarotonga, Tahiti, Rapanui, and Hawaii.The research project was initiated2011. The focus of our travels is tounderstand our relationship with ourwhanaunga of Te Moana nui a Kiwa,their stories, tikanga and language. Whatwe also hope to do is track the story of<strong>Kupe</strong> and his journey from the Islands toAotearoa and back again. This researchproject will be completed in 2014, thoughakonga will continue onto their Masters.H i k o i M o t u h a k e 2 0 1 3inThe cost of carrying out this research willrange between $4-5k per akonga. Thiscosting is only for accommodation, carrentals and a portion for food. Eachakonga is expected to pay for their ownairline tickets which will cost an additional$5k. As mentioned above, your whanau member is going on this voyage to represent and research as anakonga and ambassador to your hapu and iwi, ultimately to Aotearoa. As a roopu and whanau we areasking that you support your whanau member representing you. Each akonga needs some form ofcontribution to their travels.
