Hair Structure* Hair above the skin consists almost entirely of Keratin* The cuticle of healthy hair consists of approximately 10 cuticle layers* The condition of the cuticle is essential for healthy hair* The cortex is formed from fibres made of natural elements such as carbon, oxygen, sulphur, hydrogen and nitrogen* An open porous structure will leave the cortex exposed and vulnerable todamage and dehydration* The medulla is hollow and not always presentCuticleCortexMedulla/CorePorosityCuticle ................................... Outer layerCortex .................................... Inner layer 60% of the hair structureMedulla/Core ....................... Not always presentPorosity is the hairs ability to absorb and retain moisture. It is not uncommon for a head of hair to have varying degrees of porosity throughoutthe head. A normal balance is ideal to ensure the hair absorbs and retains moisture adequately. Hair that is highly porous releases colour and moisturequickly, low porosity hair is more difficult to penetrate and often requires longer processing time.Porosity is caused by physical and chemical factors and every precaution should be taken to try and avoid increasing the hair’s porosity.Porosity can be corrected with protein treatments such as White Ice Protein Spray. Protein binds to the hair and fills in the exposed areas reducingfurther damage. Care should be taken when using protein treatments to not over do it. If the hair starts to become brittle then discontinue use andreplace with an acidic pH based conditioner. i.e White Ice Treatment ConditionerAffinage Sapphire Ice Defender should always be used prior to colour application for balancing porosity.page 3

TextureFineExamining hair texture is a crucial part of the professional colour consultation.Different hair texture may cause unexpected colour results if not taken into consideration.* Fine hair often lacks volume, is easy to lighten and achieve grey/white hair coverage.* Medium hair has good elasticity, lightens well and results in good grey/white hair coverage.* Coarse hair has reduced elasticity and is very strong but can be challenging to cover grey/white hair andlighten from dark levels.MediumCoarseSkin Sensitivity TestAlthough rare, allergic reactions can occur in individuals who have had no previous reactions. It is therefore recommended that a skin sensitivity test be completed 24 – 48 hours prior to the application or use of Affinage Professional products.Apply product (for hair colours refer to mixing guidelines) to a clean, dry patch of skin on the inside elbow orbehind the ear. Allow to dry and preferably leave uncovered and undisturbed for 24 – 48 hours. If during this time any irritation, stinging, swelling, burning or redness should occur, the test area should be washed off immediately and the product not be used. This test represents a reasonable precaution but an allergic reaction may still occur. Should the individual experience a reaction, Affinage Professionalrecommends consultation with a Medical Practitioner or Dermatologist.page 4

Infiniti Shade Chart & Numbering SystemAffinage Infiniti numbering system follows the International Colour Code (I.C.C) for easy identification. The first number represents the depth of colour -how light or dark the colour is. The first number after the decimal point represents the primary tone, which is then supported by the secondary tone (secondnumber after the point) and tertiary tone (third number after the point).PrimaryDepth Tone Secondary ToneTertiary Tonei.e. 7.036Depth10 Extra LightBlonde9 Very LightBlonde8 LightBlonde7 MediumBlonde6 DarkBlonde5 LightBrown4 MediumBrown3 DarkBrown2 Very DarkBrown1 BlackTone .0 Natural .1 Ash .2 Pearl Violet .3 Gold .4 Copper .5 Mahogany .6 Red .7 Matt GreenConsultationStep by step guide for colour selection, application and timing of your Affinage Infiniti colour.7 Step Colouring Guide1. When hair type is not easily determined the use of 6% is recommended.Note: Refer to colouring tips when using cool reflects i.e. .1, .11, .2 & .21, .221 for covering grey hair.Colouring Resistant Grey Hair• Extend processing time by a further 5 – 10 minutes no heat• Resistant mix 1 + 1, reduced developer (reduced reflect result)• Pre-pigmentation 1 + 1 with Infiniti permanent 1 depth lighter than target shade and waterpage 12

Corrective Colouring with Infinti Erase ItTo ensure all colour pigments have been removed from the hair carry out the colour detector phase.Method – Detector Phase1. Use 15 - 50ml of 3%, 10vol Infiniti Developer and apply to erased area.2. Leave for 5 minutes, if at any stage the hair darkens, rinse and apply Infiniti Erase It again.3. Rinse thoroughly.4. If hair turns darker after the detector application it is likely that not all the colour pigments have been removed. In this case repeat the applicationprocedure.Re- Colouration1. Apply colour on damp or dry hair.2. After the colour removal process the hair will absorb colour pigments easily, therefore it is recommended to use 1 – 2 shades lighter than thedesired shade.3. In the case of very porous hair, distribute the colour on the lengths and ends for approximately 5 - 10 minutes, visual processing is vital to ensurethe hair does not become too dark. Full processing times are not always necessary after an Infiniti Erase It application.4. The developer selection is determined by the new shade applied.a) Same depth and adding colour - Use 6%, 20vol Infiniti Developerb) 1-2 shades lift - Use 9%, 30vol Infiniti DeveloperIt is always advisable to use 9%, 30vol when re-colouring with a Violet or Mahogany tone.Note: The use of Infiniti Permanent Arctic Blondes is not recommended after an Erase It application.
