6DESIGN FEATURESSynthetic CoatingsCoated fabric gloves can be used for a multitude oftasks ranging from handling bricks, glass and wire tochemical laboratory applications.They are made by dipping fabric liners in a syntheticmaterial, such as latex, nitrile, PVC (poly-vinyl chloride)and PU (polyurethane). This process transforms itinto multi-purpose hand protection glove with slipresistant,abrasion-resistant and/or chemical-resistantqualities.As a general rule, the thicker the coating, the greaterthe chemical and abrasion resistance. However thickergloves may impair grip and dexterity which impacts onsafety.Coating FinishesSMOOTH: Most economical, but has no additionalgripping capability.ROUGH: Economical, improved gripping capabilitySANDY: Excellent gripping capability (see doubledippedgreen PVC gloves - pg 19)ETCHED: Channels away oil and liquids for maximumgripping capabilities.ROUGH-CHIP: Unique pebbled textured glovespecifically designed for horticultural (see GrisslyPCB L26 - pg 21)LiningGloves are cotton lined for wearing comfort and aid insweat absorption. The material is durable andmachine washable which significantly reduces thecost-per-wear the glove.PVC (Poly-Vinyl Chloride)PVC are suitable for use with many water-solublechemicals including cleaning products with acidicand alkaline properties. However protection againstorganic solvents are limited.Latex (Rubber)Latex has outstanding tensile strength, elasticity andtemperature resistance properties. It is also about toresist abrasions caused by grinding and polishing,and most water solutions of acids, alkalis, salts andketones. This makes them a popular general-purposeglove material.Latex gloves may not be appropriate for all employeesdue to latex allergies. In this case, some alternativesto consider include hypoallergenic gloves, glove linersand powder-free gloves.PU (Polyurethane)PU is a versatile polymer with great stretch, strengthand softness. It possess excellent flexibility andgripping properties without being sticky making it anideal glove coating material for precision work andhandling of small parts.NitrileNitrile gloves are ideal for jobs requiring dexterity andsensitivity. In addition, these gloves stand up to heavyuse even after prolonged exposure to substances thatcause other gloves to deteriorate.They offer protection when working with oils, greases,acids, caustics and alcohols but are generally notsuitable for use with strong oxidizing agents, aromaticsolvents, ketones and acetates.Cut Resistant TAEKI 5 YarnThis composite material achieves the highest level incut resistance and versatility. It remains comfortableduring extended periods of wear in wet, dusty or oilyconditions. Being machine-washable and lint free,it is also economical and suitable for ‘clean room’applications (see the full TAEKI 5 range on pg 12-13).WORKFORCE SAFETY PRODUCTS

LEATHER RIGGERS 7LeatherLeather is among the most popularglove material. Along with greatfit and dexterity, leather glovescan protect against rough objects,sustained heat, sparks and abrasion.Types of LeatherPREMIUM GRAIN COWHIDE: Strongand supple leather. It has the bestabrasion resistance and punctureresistance. Oil and water repellant.SPLIT COWHIDE: Good abrasionresistance and more economical thanpremium grain. Rough texture of leatheroffers better grip.PREMIUM GRAIN PIGSKIN: Soft, suppleleather.
