7More support is needed for mothers to improve breastfeeding levels. Currently, data are available at PCTlevel but more detailed information is required to ensure adequate planning and appropriate targeting ofservices and initiatives to support breastfeeding in local areas. This report aims to provide such information.It examines levels of breastfeeding for different population groups to identify those groups where furthersupport may be needed. By providing analysis at a lower level, it is hoped that it can be used for moretargeted planning. We have also examined the associations between breastfeeding and specific healthoutcomes (where there is established evidence that an association exists), to provide some indication onthe impact of infant feeding on health outcomes and the use of health services in local areas.
