<strong>2013</strong> <strong>Northwest</strong> <strong>District</strong> 4-H <strong>Horse</strong> <strong>Show</strong>All <strong>Horse</strong>s and 4-H Members entered must be enrolled in the 4-H <strong>Horse</strong> Project and onrecord with their respective County Extension Office.Age Requirements: Novice- Ages 9 through 11. A 4-H member must have passed his/her 9th birthday or be 8years old and in third grade but cannot be in the 6th grade and have passed his/her 12thbirthday prior to January 1 of the current 4-H program year. Junior: Ages 12 to 13. A 4-H member must have passed his/her 12 th birthday or be 11 years oldand in the 6 th grade but not have passed his/her 14 th birthday prior to January 1 of the current 4-H program year. Senior: Ages 14 to 19. A 4-H member must have passed his/her 14 th birthday or be 13 years oldand in the 8 th grade but not have passed his/her 19 th birthday prior to January 1 of the current 4-H program year.Awards: 28 of 41 Classes count toward High Point and Reserve High Point awards.Points are accumulated on each horse and rider pair. Points will accumulate as follows:1 st Place----6 points2 nd Place---5 points3 rd Place---4 points4 th Place---3 points5 th Place---2 points6 th Place---1 pointIf fewer than 6 horses in each class, points will be awarded accordingly (i.e. 4 horses/points =4,3, 2, 1; 3 horses/point = 3, 2, 1, and etc.)Note:In the event of a tie, the order of the tie breakers will be: (1) earned points in the greatestnumber of events, (2) earned the most points in the riding classes, (3) greatest # of firstplaces, (4) coin toss.After a class has been called into the ring, the gate will remain open for 2 minutes only.No refunds will be given except in the case of a written doctor or veterinarian’s excuse.In these cases, refunds will be mailed out after the show. Scratched classes are notrefundable. No substitution of classes will be allowed.4-H members qualifying at the show for State Fair 4-H Classes must use the same horsethat is used at this show.Stalls (pens) and RV/Trailer hook ups are available at Rocking <strong>Horse</strong> Arena. Stalls cost$15.00/night.Concession Stand will be available for lunch. Long sleeved shirt tucked into pants. Long sleevedshirt is defined as a western style long sleeve shirt with buttons or snaps down the front. Theshirt will have a fold down collar that can have a button. NO SWEAT SHIRTS,TURTLENECKS, “SLINKIES”, T-SHIRTS, PULLOVERS SWEATERS OR VESTS. PerAQHA rule #445(e), judges, at their discretion, may authorize adjustments to attire due toweather-related conditions.• Ties, scarves and gloves are optional.• Western hats, or ASTM/SEI approved helmet, must be worn in ALL Western classes. Awestern hat or helmet must be worn during Barrel Racing and Pole Bending in accordance withAQHA rules. No penalty for hats falling off during a run.• NO CHAPS except in Reining where chaps are optional.English Dress Code: Riders should wear hunt coats of traditional hunt seat style andconservative color, breeches of traditional shades of buff, gray, or rust, high English boots, orpaddock shoes. Navy blue, black or brown hunting cap (hard hat) is mandatory. A tie or chokeris required. Spurs of the unrowelled type, crops or bats are optional. Hair must be neat andcontained in a net or braid.Procedure for qualifying for the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong> State Fair (NMSF) 4H <strong>Horse</strong> <strong>Show</strong>• The top six placings in each class at the respective district 4H <strong>Horse</strong> <strong>Show</strong> qualify and areeligible to show at the NMSF 4H <strong>Horse</strong> <strong>Show</strong>.• The top ten placings at the Tucumcari 4H <strong>Horse</strong> <strong>Show</strong> in each class qualify and are eligible toshow at the NMSF 4H <strong>Horse</strong> <strong>Show</strong>. In the event that a previously qualified horse places in thetop 10 at Tucumcari, then the next eligible qualifier (11th place) will qualify and be eligible forthe NMSF 4H <strong>Horse</strong> <strong>Show</strong>.• At the NMSF 4H <strong>Horse</strong> <strong>Show</strong>, the 4H member must show the horse that qualified at therespective district or Tucumcari shows. No substitution of horses is allowed.Green <strong>Horse</strong>/Rider: The Green classes are for riders who have minimally or never participatedin a horse show. The Green Classes are also for experienced riders with a green horse.
