MP rally3rd Edition of JK Tyre <strong>Car</strong> Rally for MPsThe annual car rally for members ofParliament concluded in New Delhi onDecember 8, 2012. The third editionof the JK Tyre - Constitution Club ofIndia Parliamentarian <strong>Car</strong> Rally wasflagged-off by the Vice-Presidentof India Hamid Ansari with JitendraSingh, Minister of State - Youth Affairs& Sports in presence. Road safetywas the core theme of this event andthe rally was held in the memory ofparliamentarians who lost their livesin road accidents. Those present atthe flag-off included Dr. RaghupatiSinghania, Vice-Chairman & ManagingDirector, JK Tyre & Industries Limited andKarun Chandhok, India’s youngest FormulaOne driver & JK Tyre brand ambassador.More than 80 teams participated andthese included 25 parliamentarians,Vice Pesident of India Hamid Ansari along withDr. Raghupati Singhania, Karun Chandhok and MPs.diplomats, media, PSUs and armed forcespersonnel. The rally was held in Delhion a 37.5-km route in a Time, Speed,Distance (TSD) format car rally. Prominentparliamentarians who participated in therally included Rajiv Pratap Rudy, NaveenJindal, Tarun Vijay, Dr. Sanjay Singhand Thomas Sangma.The winners were felicitated atthe prize distribution ceremonypresided by Dr. C P Joshi, Ministerof Road Transport & Highways.The gala had a number ofparliamentarians and special inviteesincluding V P Singh Badnore, RP N Singh, Anurag Thakur,. KironKher among others. The eventalso featured a scintillating act bypop diva and performer AnushkaManchanda, who entertained theattendees with a mix of musical anddance performance. In keeping with thetheme of ‘Road Safety’, a short film on thetopic was unveiled and dedicated to theparliamentarians who lost their lives in fatalroad accidents.Tata Motors Full Throttle dominates JK TyreHornbill RallyTeam Tata Motors Full Throttle completeda clean sweep of titles with Bangalorebasedhusband-wife combination ofSatish Gopalkrishnan and Savera D’Souzaemerging winners in the Overall and Pro-Expert categories in the JK Tyre-FMSCIIndian National TSD Rally Championshipthat was run as part of the Hornbill Festival.Gopalkrishnan and Savera,winners of the first roundin Bangalore, picked up 25points that moved themfrom third to second in theOverall standings with a tallyof 60, behind leaders KarthickMaruthi and Sankar Anand(Team Mahindra) fromErode who finished seventhoverall but fifth in the class.In the Pro-Stock class, anotherBangalore pair of Chidananda Murthyand navigator Sujith Kumar BS, also ofTata Motors Full Throttle team toppedthe charts followed by team-matesKanth Gowda and Kuriakose EliasParel and MD Ganesh Moorthy and MPrakash.Full Throttle also swept more awardsas the team was adjudged “Best Institution”while its team members Dimapur’s PhilipLam was declared Best Navigator and TsoteTheir of Kohima, driving Tata Xenon wonthe special award for “Maximum Zero”penalties.Adding to Full Throttle’s silverwarewas Nitoka Chopy and Philip Lam fromDimapur in a Tata Indica, who won the tophonours in the Novice class.www.carnstyle.com<strong>Jan</strong>uary 2013 / <strong>Car</strong> N <strong>Style</strong> / 15
