This gifts me with the opportunityto blissfully quench my thirst witha welcome drink, while the friendlyconcierge attends to my check-in needs.A personalised butler then escorts me tomy room. As expected from a sanctumof lavishness, this five-star hotel alsocomes with a high level of security; hence a key card thatis assigned to me, in order to access my room and otherrestricted areas within the Genting Hotel.A world of the utmost repose and opulence is presentedbefore me as I enter the Premier Room, which I find canonly be compared to the very comforts of home. I circlemy spacious retreat and slowly, accustom myself with thecontemporary in design and ample space.Placing my personal belongings within the large walk-inwardrobe, I felt myself amazed by all that the room has tooffer. With pillows picked straight out of a menu, I sink intomy King Sized bed and enjoy my Home Theatre Systemallocated with a 42-inch Plasma TV.However, during my next stay, I am sure to indulge myselfin one of the other suites that are available to me. TheGenting Suite; a room twice as big as my Premier Room, equipped with a mini bar, a large bathtub and a 15-inch TVin the bathroom. Or even maybe the Signature Suite; whereI can choose either an Arabian or Modern styled room thatincludes a kitchenette, a grand dining area and all the spaceI could ask for.The crème de la crème of this overall experience however, would be the round the clock butler service. A trainedprofessional, he is able to cater to my every whim and fancy. From my culinary requests to a babysitter for the kids, hewould be more than happy to oblige. With a butler on call providing a level of service that isunique and like no other, Genting Hotel remains to be mytop choice of accommodation when it comes to first classtreatment. It is truly a place where luxury is well-served.04

Even with a fully equipped room, the breathtaking view is the first thing I notice asI walk in, and acts as a constant reminder to why Awana was my choice of stay.Enjoying the scenery, I prepare myself for a truly relaxing getaway. It has become a habitual must to take a leisurely stroll around the resort and immersemyself in the greenery that surrounds me. The cool, crisp mountain air fill my lungsas my eyes scan through the tall regal pine trees down to the rows of flaming redHibiscus bushes that line my path. The serenity and harmony that this place proffersis unparalleled, and can only be fully admired if one soaks in the verdant and vibrantenvironment themselves. After a long day, it is standard procedure to unwind in the temperature-controlledswimming pool. Planning my next step in Awana is always tricky; however I am certainI will have a blast with any choice I make.05Awana

A fine dining outlet of swanky interiors; warm shades of itsnamesake colour envelops the interiors of The Olive, whichmakes for the perfect ambience to fully immerse in a five-starcontemporary dining experience. The Olive, though best knownfor serving up great Continental Cuisine, is also much famedfor its conveyor belt of Michelin Star chefs, who often grace itskitchens on a regular basis.Signature dishes such as the Escargot with Herbed GarlicButter Gratin and Chilean Sea Bass Mushroom Ragout aside,I am particularly fond of its house specialty, the Wagyu SirloinMarble Beef - a prime cut which features highly sinful andequally intense fat marbling. Each bite always brings to mymouth a burst of flavours so rich that it begs to be washeddown with a glass of fine wine - and nothing less.Which brings us to one of the most exorbitant offerings atThe Olive - the Chateau Petrus 1982.A bottle of high-price goodness, this winecomes straight off the very estatesof the Pomerol appellation. At RM43,800 a bottle, it is certainlya privilege that only a veryfew will get to experience.Would you, too, care to splurgein the name of good wine? The Olive08

The Luxuryof Choice. As a perfect complement for a luxurious holiday, I’m mostdrawn to this dining establishment when I desire a sumptuousmeal of various culinary origins. With an open-kitchen andbuffet concept, this is where I get to sample a tantalising arrayof cuisine, from Western, Japanese, Chinese, Nyonya, Indian toLocal Favourites; all thoughtfully produced by chefs who areexperts in their respective culinary fields. With a plate in hand, I’d treat myself to a generous helpingfrom each and every cuisine, pausing once in a while to watchin awe as my food is skillfully prepared. The buffet spreadCoffeefeatures different highlighted dishes, depending on the day.I’m especially partial to their Chicken or Lamb Tandoori wheretender meat is cooked with yoghurt and tandoori masala andharmonised with vegetable and seafood mint chutney.Dessert, too, comes in a variety of heavenly cakes andpastries, all tastefully placed upon gleaming trays and glass ofsilver. A thirst for more, however, calls for a cocktail or a glassof freshly squeezed orange juice from the Lanai Bar.As one of the most spacious and elegantly furbishedrestaurants in the Resort, this is also where patrons have thefreedom to dine wherever they like. A personal fancy? The cozy alfresco terrace where the cool mountain airprovides a wonderful contrast to a piping hot meal.09

Meals Fit for aMaharaja. To satisfy my mood for a spicy fare, I make my way to theSpice Garden, an exquisite award-winning restaurant thatserves just what I need to tickle my taste buds. It is whereepicureans like myself go to savour more than just an exoticfeast but also, dine in a grand ambience fit for a Maharaja ofthe times.Spice Garden has an impressive and extensive variety ofdishes on their menu and diners will be spoilt for choice. I cannever resist ordering this particular signature dish of theirs, the Murgh Malai Tikka where succulent juicy chicken filletmelts in my mouth as they are marinated in cream, yoghurt, enhanced with special Indian herbs and spices and grilled toperfection. But what makes this restaurant stand out from therest are its vegetarian and Jain dishes, all prepared by chefswho have undergone years of strict training in India.SpiceThe secret to its distinctive flavours? The combination ofspices like saffron and cumin seeds, all handpicked andimported from North India, ensuring that the only freshest offlavours are finely preserved in its dishes. It’s ultimately theplace to be for an authentic taste of India in every bite.10

Of Prestige& Pampering.Between jet lag, demanding tour schedules andsuch unpredictable factors as the weather, traffichold-ups and digestion, sometimes even a holidaycan become slightly overwhelming.11

cocoa powder and rich, moisturising Spanishcream. It’s a real full-body pick-me-up, with adetoxifying and firming anti-cellulite effect thatleaves my skin feeling nourished, refreshedand toned. And me feeling rejuvenated, albeitwith a strong scent not dissimilar to a Hershey’schocolate product.Which is why it’s a godsend that an oasis oftranquility such as M Spa & Fitness exists in thehustle and bustle of the resort. The spa’s ambienceis as welcomingly minimalist as its name;there’s soft, inviting lighting, sporadic Zen-likeornamentation and a fortunate lack of anythingremotely tacky or forced.Of course, no matter how wonderful the place looksand feels, it’s the treatments that I come here for.And there are a whole lot of those, from relaxingmassages and revitalising facials to nourishing hairtherapies and lavish body treatments. When my skin feels especially dull, I treatmyself to the marine-based Algotherm Facial, aholistic treatment from France that moisturisesand oxidises the skin for complete invigoration, revealing a healthy, natural glow that (almost)recaptures my youthful glory. After that, there’s an hour or so of immersingmyself in the bubbling Jacuzzi, stimulatingSteam Room and sensuous Sauna, and I’mfinally ready to get back to holidaying. And doingit while looking like a million bucks too,if I do say so myself. My personal favourite? The Signature Body Wrap, which sounds like it could belong on the menuof a sophisticated, new age coffee bar, whatwith ingredients including concentrated caffeine,M Spa12

13Never EndingThrills.

Outdoor Theme ParkMy stay would not be complete if I did not give in to theGenting Outdoor Theme Park, with a plethora of exhilaratingrides and attractions. Being a thrill seeker myself, I stronglyurge you treat yourself to this experience.I cannot help but anticipate with eagerness and excitementthe experience of soaring and twisting through the air on theFlying Coaster. I cling on and brace myself for acceleration, and feel the rush and weightlessness as I am launched intozero-gravity.Filled with adrenaline, I could satisfy my need for adventureon any one of the 40 rides, in an astounding display for anyappetite.Indoor Theme ParkDesiring the comfort of the great indoors and a multitude offamily based activities, I head to the Indoor Theme Park locatedat the First World Plaza, where a selection of 30 rides andattractions await me.To accustom myself once again with the vastness and varietyof the great indoors, I hop on the Euro Express; Resorts WorldGenting’s first ever indoor roller coaster. As I weave in, out and allaround the building, I simultaneously map out my next move andalso get to enjoy a tour of the mall like no other. For a different sort of exhilaration, I purchase a ticket for the4D Motion Master. With a combination of 3D glasses, movingseats that coincide with the actions of the film and actual airjets to heighten the suspense, this is beyond any 3D cinematicexperience I have encountered.Surging excitement to all those who visit, the indoor theme parkoperates as the pulse of Genting.14

Shopping Abovethe Clouds.A hive of activity and alwaysbuzzing with life, I findFirst World Plaza a lovelyplace for a spot of retailtherapy. Countless brandavenues line the floors of thepremise, paving the way fora shopping experience likeno other.15

First World Plaza has an eclectic mix of wares that rangesfrom soft toys to watches, eyewear to jewelry, to footwear andclothes. As shoppers weave in and out of the branded retailoutlets featuring premium garments such as Adidas, Cotton Onand Padini Concept Store; other vistors would scour the bazaarbelow or patronise the smaller vendor stalls for souvenirs ornovelty curio. This locale never fails to surprise me with its sights andsounds like the Genting International Show Room wheredazzling residential shows or concerts by world-renownedperformers are showcased every season. I recently caughtthe newest resident show - FREEZE; a dazzling performanceon ice that captivates the audiences senses, sending us on anemotional journey with the use of entrancing visuals, soundsand movement. If still in the mood for more, I’ll catch the latestblockbuster in 3D by purchasing my movie tickets at the FirstWorld Cineplex, armed with popcorn and a cool drink in hand. There is also an arcade that is equipped with a myriad ofgames for every inclination and interest. If I were keen onputting my skills to the test, I’ll make my way to the GentingBowl where I can have a go at getting a strike at thisglow-in-the-dark bowling alley. With its unique amalgamation of high street brands, flea market bazaars and entertainment, First World Plazatruly is a shopping destination.16

A Diverse NightScene. The PatioTo round off the evening, I always find myself revisitingThe Patio to complete my full day of activities.I enjoy the live music which adds to the atmosphere andsets the tone when mingling with its other patrons. Whenconcerned with the score, The Sports Bar keeps me updatedon my favourite team at all times, with six high-definitionTV’s fitted in every corner of the room. The highlight for me however is the fact that The Patio offersa grand selection of 14 types of beer, originating from allaround the world, leaving me spoilt for choice.W2For a more quiet and mellow environment, I would visit W2instead. Its textured brick walls and wooden antique shelvescontribute to the quaint cosiness of this wine and whiskey bar.As I settle in the ambiance, the wine and whiskeys on displaysimply beckon me to another swirl and sip. I take a seat in anoversized brown leather chair, with a high-quality whiskey inhand. There is no mystery to why W2 has been deemed the‘Godfather’s Den’.17Patio & W2

StrawberryFieldsForever. There’s a sense of nostalgia that comesrushing back to me whenever I think ofstrawberries. Maybe it’s all those childhoodmemories of savouring the tangy sweetnessof the fruit, complete with dollops of richcream, at family picnics that are now adistant memory. There’s also a charming cafe that I patronise every time I’mat the farm, where I can continue gorging myself on all thingsstrawberry; on warmer days I’m often tempted to wolf downa Strawberry popsicle or two, and when there’s a chill in thewind I huddle close to a mug of delicious Strawberry milk tea. Thus it was very much a pleasant repose venturing into theStrawberry Leisure Farm, basket in hand, ready to relive thoseMy final stop? The strawberry souvenir store, where I neverhappy moments of yore. I’m partial to a particular Californianforget to purchase a gift for fellow strawberry fans awaitingvariety, as I find these incredibly succulent and juicy intheir luscious treasures at home.comparison to other species.Strawberry18

CA PeacefulPursuit. The Chin Swee Caves Temple, steeped in mythologyand heritage, is where tranquilty and serenity reignsupreme. I’m never alone when I cast my eyesupon the panoramic scenery wreathed in mist andsurrounded by lush verdant forests, as countlessstatues of deities watch over the entire location.19

Camera at the ready, I proceed to explore and wander throughthe sprawling complex. I enjoy being with the likes of devoteesand visitors who travel here to meditate, or to just gaze uponthe various eye-catching displays of the Eight Deities, the TenChambers of Hell, as well as the figurines of the famous 18Lohans (Divine Characters). The Nine-Colour Dragon Wall of Luck would greet me as I stepinto this placid sanctuary. I find the stone carvings of Chinesefolklore most fascinating, as every intricate carving depictsa story about filial piety, inspiring its admirers to regard theirforebears with respect and love. After a slight exertion to the top of the majestic nine-storeypagoda, I reward myself with a magnificent view of the entiremountainside. The roofs, eaves and walls are carved withmotifs of dragons, phoenixes and deities - characteristicof the Chinese culture, making it a sight to behold. To refuel from all the walking and sightseeing inthe cool mountain air, I make my way to the Chin SweeVegetarian Restaurant. An extensive vegetarian menumakes for an exciting culinary adventure. It’s where I canfind delicious vegetarian food cooked Chinese-style such asNestum prawns, Sweet & Sour Pork in Yam Ring and Sweet &Sour Crispy Mushroom. The attentive staff, ever obliging, onlyserves to add to my dining pleasure.A place where time slows down immensely, a visit to the ChinSwee Caves Temple is an excellent getaway from the hurriedrush of modernity.hin Swee20
