SCHOOL OVERVIEWTeddington School is a very successful and heavily oversubscribed 11–16 mixedcomprehensive school, located in pleasant surroundings in Teddington, on the banks of theRiver Thames. In September 2010, we moved into a fantastic £36m new building, whichprovides an outstanding learning environment for both our students and staff. It truly is aninspiring venue in which to teach.As well as our new school building, this is also a very exciting time in the development ofTeddington School, since in September 2014, we will welcome our first sixth form cohort,following the decision by Richmond Council to open sixth forms in all of its local schools.Extensive planning and preparation for the sixth form, including the development of apurpose built sixth form centre, is well underway to ensure we deliver an outstandingeducational environment for our post-16 students, in the same way that we cater for ouryounger students.Teddington School students are proud of their school and they feel safe, happy, challengedand involved in school life. We promote high levels of personal responsibility and we supportindividuals to be capable, self-reliant and self-motivated. You will also find that relationshipsbetween staff and students are excellent. Whilst our students are hard working, creative andhave a really positive attitude to learning, they are also incredibly good fun to work with. Thesame applies for our staff and there are lots of opportunities to socialise with colleagues.Teddington also offers its students an extensive range of extra-curricular opportunities as awell as a wide variety of educational visits both in the UK and overseas, so there are lots ofopportunities for staff to fully involve themselves in the life of the school. All of these thingsmake Teddington School a great place for people to work.Teddington School’s philosophy is to encourage excellence in all aspects of school life andto measure success in terms of progress as well as achievement. We aim to create a schoolwhere students of all aptitudes can realise their full potential, socially and academically, sothat they can go on to lead happy, fulfilled lives. We have high expectations in respect ofacademic performance, behaviour and personal development and Teddington Schoolstudents live up to these expectations.The achievement of students at Teddington School is excellent and our students attain highacademic standards by making very good progress. At GCSE in 2013, 74% of studentsgained 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths; 29% gained 5 or more A* or Agrades; 48% gained A*-C in the EBACC subjects. Our students also achieve a great deal ofsuccess in sport and the creative and performing arts. The school’s specialism in Visual Artssupports this success.Within the classroom, the school has embarked upon a series of whole-school staffdevelopment activities in relation to curriculum content, teaching and learning styles, and therole of ICT within the classroom. This work has had a positive impact on expectations andoutcomes and was praised by Ofsted in our most recent inspection.
