The optimum level shouldbe determined for each application. Soft water (6.This product is anionic and is usually compatible with othermaterials in a blended system (except cationic additives). It isrecommended that blended systems be checked for stability.Grade ST-500 may be used in industrial, professional andconsumer applications, and can be applied using a brush, mop,roller, paint pad or spray applicator, including pressurized aerosolsprayers. See Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for use and handlingrecommendations. Thoroughly wet the surface beingtreated with the diluted product, and remove excess liquidafter 15–30 minutes.A second application is recommended to ensure completecoverage. A biocide should be added to formulations made usingGrade ST-500 to protect the formulation against microbial growth.For dense substrates, optimum performance can be achievedwith the addition of 2–5% polar protic solvents, such as isopropylalcohol or Dowanol ® PnB glycol ether.PerformanceDuPont Capstone ® repellent Grade ST-500 (diluted to 10%product in water) was compared to a competitive aqueousbasedsilicone sealer. Each product was applied to limestone andto Saltillo (also known as Mexican clay tile, or terra cotta) andallowed to dry for three days. Corn oil, Italian dressing, ketchup,mustard, grape juice,and coffee were then placed on the treated substrates. After24 hours, the tiles were washed with a mild detergent solutionand allowed to dry. The remaining stains were rated as follows:0 = No stain, 1 = Very light stain, 2 = Light stain, 3 = Moderatestain, 4 = Heavy stain. The ratings were totaled for eachtile sample.The results below show that DuPont Capstone ® repellentGrade ST-500 outperformed the competitive aqueous-basedsilicone sealer.
