Number of Rule 43 reports received from each coroner districtBetween 1 April 2012 and 30 September 2012 Rule 43 reports were issued by68 of the 112 coroner districts. This is the highest number of individualjurisdictions to report in a six month period. In the six months covered by this bulletin, the Manchester South coroner’sdistrict issued 10 reports, the highest number by a single area. However, coroners generally issue far fewer reports than this. The number of reports a coroner issues is largely determined by the nature ofthe deaths he or she investigates and whether he or she believes that actioncould be taken to prevent future deaths. Often the coroner will be satisfied byevidence heard at an inquest that remedial action has already been taken, somay decide no useful purpose will be served by issuing a Rule 43 report afterthe inquest.5
