The censusis needed not only of families andindividuals in the community but alsoneeds to include those who reside ingroup quarters, such as long-term carefacilities. It is very important that every individualis counted as the census data isused to monitor population growth andchange, allocate federal funds, monitorquality of life in America and measurechanges and trends in society. It is particularlyimportant for long-term carefacilities as government funding canhave an impact on reimbursementwhich could effect the type of servicesprovided for its residents.A team of Sephardic Home Stafffrom the Recreation Department, SocialService Department and Casaby Judith WeissDepartment headed up by Judith WeissCTRS, Director of Recreation as teamleader conducted the census for all ofthe residents currently in the facility asof April 7, 2010.On April 7th staff from the CensusBureau came to the facility to train ourteam of staff. We all had to be sworn in,taking an oath of confidentiality. Thiswas followed by a two hour trainingsession to instruct us how to enumeratethe census, fill out the individual formswith the residents and collect all thedata for those unable to participate. On Friday April 9th the CensusBureau staff returned to review and collectthe forms and to ensure that eachand every individual was included. It was a new and interesting experiencefor us to be part of something thatnot only happens once every decadebut that has an influence on the lives ofall Americans..
