This year'sgraduation class is composed of 112 students. As usual, about 85% ofgraduates have been accepted into colleges or universities. The AHSAlumni Association is presenting its second Maxie R. williams, JR awardin this commencement. For those pre-1969 graduates, the MaxieWilliams field is the AHS football and baseball field in Ft. Buchanan, bythe golf course, so named after Maxie Williams, a 1963 AHS graduate.An excellent student, Ray, as he was called by his classmates was anhonor student, a student leader and outstanding athlete. He graduatedfrom University of Tennessee in 1967, received a commission in the USMarine Corps in 1967, was killed in Vietnam in 1968, the field wasmemorialized in his honor in 1969 and the first Maxie Williams awardwas presented in AHS in 1970. The original award was given to the malesenior that best exemplified the spirit of Maxie R. Williams. The revivedaward will be given to the graduating senior, female or male that bestlives up to those standards. The original award was presented for aboutfive years and then was no longer given. The Alumni Association underthe leadership of Pamela Fay-Williams, resurrected the award last year.Tonight, the award will be presented for the second time on its seconditeration. Well, the AHS Class of 1978, Class of 1979 and Class of1980 Las Vegas2005 Reunion is less than a month away! 8, 2005, in her Hot Springs, Arkansas home after an extended illness,surrounded by her family. She was 79. Born June 17, 1925 in Okmulgee,Oklahoma, “Mrs. Ed” was a schoolteacher for 45 years – 27 of those inPuerto Rico. She is survived by her husband after 60 years of marriage;one sister, Patty (Stovall) Canada, and brother-in-law, Bud Canada; twosons: Chuck Edmisten, Jr. (class of ’71) of Hot Springs, and ErickEdmisten (class of ’77) of Ashdown, Arkansas; three grandchildren: B. C.“Trey” Edmisten, III, Emily Edmisten, and Erica Edmisten; and onedaughter-in-law, Becky Edmisten of Ashdown. She was a member ofthe First Christian Church, Pilot Club and Whitfield Gardening Club.Visitation will be Saturday, June 11, 2005, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at GrossFuneral Home with private services following. It was with great sadness

that I read the message left by Ed Rehkopf concerning the passing ofour classmate Tom McChesney. While I didn't know Tom well, likeanyone else at Antilles while Tom was there, I knew who he was andalways felt the joy of just being around such a wonderful, quiet, friendlyperson. Like another classmate said, I never thought of Tom witoutthinking of Ed! When I attended the All Class Reunion in 2005, I heardtime and time again the question, "Has anyone heard from Tom or Ed?"They were the two truly "Big Men on Campus!" I also remembered whata great golfer he was. My brother, Alan Boyd,(Class of 1966), playedgolf with him many times. It was wonderful to read about his life afterAntilles, and to know that even though his life was cut short, Tom lived afull, rich, and loving life. I agree with everone else, Tom was truly akindperson, and was the epitome of what being a gentleman is. Tomwill be greatly missed. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his wife andsons. May the memories they have sustain them through the comingyears, and may they be comforted by the knowledge that everyonewho knew him, as a close friend, a classmate, or a passingacquaintance, was touched in such an everlasting way. (All gatherings were held atthe Las Vegas Hilton). Early Saturday, I had the pleasure of enjoying Lys’and Mayra’s company for a tour of the Las Vegas strip. That night, wecame back together as a group and ate dinner at the BenihanaRestaurant. Afterwards, we headed to the Shimmer Cabaret (we had aspace reserved) and danced to the music of a live band. The musicalgroup provided a lot of music of the 70's, so that added a very specialtouch to the evening. It was as if the repertoire was tailored, customizedjust for us! And finally, on Sunday morning approximately 10 of us whowere still at the hotel met for breakfast. I want to thank each andeveryone who attended for their support. THANK YOU FOR AWONDERFUL TIME!!!!! And I’d also like to thank those who although werenot able to attend, offered words of encouragement. I appreciate you!I have no doubt that the the vision of the Reunion implemented as farback as last year with the planning of the Reunion in Orlando whichhad to be postponed (which was reconnecting, renewing andestablishing bonds was accomplished) not only within our Class of1979, but within other classes. And that does my heart good!!!!!!!I will beposting pics this week (most likely on the AHS Alumni website; will beletting classmates know where). And more on future plans later! Keepin touch! Very sad to know. I have manymemories of Mrs. Woolis, one being her walking around with her chainsand padlocks so no one would loot her refrigerators. Wilo, I was in thatHome Ec class with you and I clearly remember the havoc. Me and afellow classmate were the only senior in that class. After every singlerecipe, we would dump the egg shells on top of the cabinets. We had ahuuuuge egg shell collection up there. The other collection was cookiedough stuck on the ceiling. Also unforgettable were the bloatedcookies the next period class got after someone in our class tamperedthe flour with baking powder. Mrs. Woolis found out about everything,and like Wilo says, she kept her cool. She was soooo nice, a saint, likeDean says. Of Mrs. Edminsten I have one very special memory. I hadlong hair and one day, my friends were teasing me about it in her class.On a quiet moment, she goes over to me and tells me that perhaps Ishould cut it. My hair was my pride, so I asker her why. And with a softsmile that came from her heart she answered: "Because you havebeautiful eyes". People, I just melted. But no, I didn't cut my hair. This wasthe last time I saw Bob or any of the other guys before moving toWurzburg, Germany. Bob and I on occasion would go out to eat and goto the goverment auctions together. Bob had been ill but is doingbetter. Bob, Frank, Jose, Miguel, and Irving live in the Fort Bragg area. Imet Irving at the Fort Bragg PX and during our conversation he told methat his cousin was Nydia Trinidad. Nydia was a cheerleader just asyourself (Nickie). I believe Nydia graduated the same year as Miguel.In 1986 I ran into Bob at JFK Special Warfare Center barbershop whilehe was getting a haircut, Jose in 1990 at the mall, Frank 2003 at HomeDepot, and I looked up Miguel in 2003 after AHS reunion in San Juan.Freddie Velez and Sammy Vasquez told me he was living in theFayetteville area and asked me to look him up. Just wanted to let everyone know that I survived Ivanand now Katrina. I live in Mobile, AL which is not that far from NewOrleans. I am enlisted in the Coast Guard, stationed on one of thecutters here in Mobile, AL. Just wanted to let you all know that thingsare slowly improving throughout the Gulf Coast. I had a chance to seethe devastationed caused by these tremendous storms and it has beena very humbling experience. Though I was not directly involved withthe rescue efforts, I stand proud of the men and women within myorganization that conducted the rescue of the citizens of Lousiana,Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast areas. The Coast Guard not onlyconduct rescues of our fellow citizens but, helped re-open thewaterways to commercial traffic that supplies our coal, fuel and othernatural resources by rebuilding all Aids to Navigations to all the majorports in record time. My shipmates and I endured long work hours andmany days underway in the hot sun and high humidity so prevalenthere in the South. We were lucky that we in Mobile had minor damagebut, those shipmates that lived in or near the area of devastation notonly had to deal with the aforementioned work conditions but, theuncertainty of when they would be reunited with loved ones that hadevacuated prior to Katrina's landfall. I hope that those who whereaffected by Katrina will be able to recover soon. Good luck to all."Semper Paratus" Always Ready
