This approach is achieved by developing the plane betweenthe carotid sheath laterally and the strap muscles medially. The procedure is performed viaone 10 mm optic port and two 3 mm operating ports, placed on the medial border of thesternocleidomastoid muscle. This “back door” approach allows direct access to the posterioraspect of the thyroid lobe, without the need for the dissection of the strap muscles ormedial retraction of the thyroid during the procedure.The set includes a series of insulated monopolar instruments to provide safe and convenienthemostasis to the operative site. The 3 mm trocars provide operating ports for theinstrumentation and can be sutured to prevent involuntary removal.
