Ph.D. The college has planned to organize workshops on Aromatic Plants andEssential Oils. (by the department of Botany)4) Encourage teachers to be members of university committees and be more proactive in university activities.5) Create and strengthen the linkages with various institutions and industries to availof the opportunities for the future and for career.6) Improve and enhance the infrastructure of the college campus.7) Inculcate the culture of serving the society by sensitizing the students towardsvarious issues of the society and imparting values by conducting various activitiesthrough NSS and Women Development Cell. (iii) Extra-curricular:-Students’ participation:-(a) Sports:-Students have excelled in Cricket, Chess, Taekwondo, Soft Ball andBase Ball in individual and team events at university, state, national andinternational levels and have won gold and silver medals.(b) Cultural activities: - The college, being an integral part of “India CultureLeague Society,” all activities are inspired by the Indian culture and propagate thegood values of this culture. There is an active participation of our alumni andexisting students in the fields of music, singing, instrumental rendition and otherfine arts.In the 40 th Inter-collegiate Cultural Competition organized by the University ofMumbai, our students won prizes in Cartooning, Ad-Mad and Folk Dancecompetitions.(iv) Extension activities:-The students of the college took up courses in Modi Script conducted at Vaze<strong>College</strong>, Mulund. Part – B:1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution.The institution develops a culture of learning for students belonging to the differentstrata of the society. The institution aims to empower the students of all sectorsthrough learning. Statutory and non-statutory committees are formed to conductvarious activities to develop the interest of the students.To create awareness about the environment and to foster communal harmony, theinstitution aims to provide value based education to students. This takes theclassroom into the world and brings the world into the classroom.Academic programs, collaborative activities, student & teacher progress andinfrastructure development are planned. These are summarized below:a. Progression in Academic ProgrammesThe institution frames new programmes and strengthens the existing ones fordeveloping the overall personality of the students for the betterment of the society.The following measures have been adopted towards fulfillment of these objectives:• Existing courses in all faculties provide various options for development of basic,fundamental insights in the various subjects. New courses at graduation and postgraduation levels have been initiated.• To meet the needs of the globalised scenario, various certificate courses are startedwhich help to provide opportunities to pursue higher education with focused,supplementary knowledge and skills.b. Teaching Methods• The teaching faculty endeavors to improvise and supplement traditional teachingmethods with innovative ones to make the teaching- learning process moreproactive. • To bring the students closer to the practical world ; industrial visits, study tours,workshops and seminars are held. The students are encouraged to involvethemselves actively in attending and in conducting these activities.• Role play as a means of imparting education is put into action by certaindepartments by including varied techniques viz. model youth parliaments, adagenciesand P.R. agencies , mock press conference, self appraisal method,research oriented methods, newspaper clippings, dramatization, news analysis,research methodology etc.• To develop better communication skills ; grammar translation method, integratedwriting & speaking exercises, five minutes activities and games, pair work,community language learning etc.are integrated into the syllabus.• Methods like producing documentaries, short films, music videos and ad- films,articles, news reviews, book reviews and assignments are used for teaching.c. Initiatives for evaluation• To evaluate students’ academic performance , a continuous evaluation asassignments, term - end examinations, tutorials, projects etc. are conducted as peruniversity guidelines.• For additional evaluation; periodical class tests, terminal examinations,preliminary examinations, home assignments etc are conducted.• For better achievement, slow learners are regularly evaluated by means ofadditional home assignments.d. Curricular Activities:• Remedial coaching is conducted for the slow learners to improve their academicabilities .• Expert Lecture Series are conducted for various subjects to guide the students toprepare them for the exams.• Additional efforts are taken for advanced learners by giving additional informationbesides the syllabus . Co- curricular Activities:• Orientation programmes for the overall enhancement of the personality of thestudents of BMM , BMS, B.Sc (IT), B.Sc(Biotechnology)and B.A were conducted.• For inculcating respect for nature and nature creation , lectures and workshops bythe departments of History, Botany and EVS ,Science Committee, Arts’ Circle etc.were conducted.• Students were motivated to attend seminars and workshops on various topics inother colleges.• A Leadership Enhancement Workshop was conducted by the department ofCommerce and the Women Development Cell. To hone the professional skills ofthe students, festivals like Bhumika , Astra and Yantrika were conceptualized andorganized by the departments of Mass Media ,Management Studies andInformation Technology.f. Extra-curricular ActivitiesThrough sports, N.S.S and cultural activities ,the students acquire the capability ofsharing social responsibility, commitment and consciousness towards their duties.It helps them to build team spirit and competitiveness, inculcate values and developa sense of patriotism.g. Academic Progression of the StaffThe teachers, with the encouragement of the Principal and the administration,upgrade themselves by attending orientation courses, refresher programmes,conferences and by presenting papers at seminars and conferences.h. Sindhudurg. He was invited asresource person to deliver a talk on the topic “UG Level Syllabusin Physics : A Comparative Study” in a state level workshop,organized by Dayanand <strong>College</strong>, Latur and sponsored by UGC-IAPT,on “Physics Education at Graduate Level : A Scientific Approach to Crisisand Remedial Solutions” held on 5th and 6th Dec. <strong>2009</strong>.• Dr (Mrs)) Mukherjee was invited to present the S.Y.B.Sc. revised syllabusof Organic Chemistry at Gogate <strong>College</strong>, Ratnagiri.b) Transactions of Innovations:• Dr. Usha Vijaylakshmi HOD History, Patkar <strong>College</strong> and teachingfaculty at Alkesh Modi Numismatic Institute delivered an inspirationallecture on “Marvels of Ancient India” for F.Y. & S.Y. and T.Y.B.A.students of History on 8th August <strong>2009</strong>. The students visited RBIMonetary Museum, Chattrapati Shivaji Vastu Sangrahalaya, ConvocationHall of University of Mumbai and ‘Heritage Walk’ along the ‘HeritageMile’ on 12th Oct. <strong>2009</strong>.• SYBA students of History visited the Chhatrapati Shivaji VastuSangrahalaya, Hanging Garden and Kamala Nehru Park.• A study tour of TYBA students of Economics was organized to Lonavala.They visited three factories viz. Monisha Petrochem, Ozet Toothbrushand Maganlal Chikki; where students could get an empirical experienceof the production process, export procedure, documents etc .A visit to theMonetary Museum of Reserve Bank of India along with General PostOffice (GPO) & World Trade Centre was organized on 23rd Dec. <strong>2009</strong> forthe T.Y.B.A. students of Economics. colours.• A visit to Mangrove Vegetation on <strong>10</strong>th Oct. <strong>2009</strong> was organized for S.Y.and T.Y. students of the department of Botany.• One day excursion to Naigaon beach, Alibaug was arranged on 22ndNov.<strong>2009</strong> for F.Y. and S.Y. students of the department of Botany.• A visit to the exhibition of medicinal plants at B.N.H.S. Mumbai andChimanlal Paper Products at Mumbai was organised on 8th Oct. 09 forT.Y.B.Sc.Botany students.• Experts’ lectures were conducted for T.Y.B.SC students of Chemistry toacquaint them with the pattern of the forthcoming university examination intheory and in practicals. The following were the speakers -a) Mrs Mary Stephen from VES <strong>College</strong>, Chemburb) Mr Ghorpade from KMC <strong>College</strong>, Khapolic) Mrs Shankuntala Patil from KBP <strong>College</strong>, Vashid) Dr Filmwalla from St Xaviers’ <strong>College</strong>, Mumbaie) Mrs Lakshmi from Ratnam <strong>College</strong>, Bhandupf) Mrs Preeti Jain from SIES <strong>College</strong> Sion.• In the month of February 20<strong>10</strong>, expert lecture series was arranged forT.Y.B.Sc, (Physics) students to understand techniques of the universityexamination to be held in the first half of 20<strong>10</strong>, for which eminentprofessors, who have worked as university examiners, moderators andchairpersons of theory examinations, were invited.• Students of Advertising of the second year made presentations of logos andnames for their groups and as an outcome of this programme formed astudy circle which went on to present goal setting and their achievements inthe backdrop of successful business leaders as role models.• F.Y B.Com. students made seminar presentations on Careers in Bankingand Retailing that gave an insight into the plethora of opportunities inthese fields.• S.Y.B.Com. students were taken for an industrial visit to Galaxyindustries, Taloja to receive practical / industrial exposure to theirproduction processes and to understand how an industrial unit operates.• Commerce students also prepared posters on ‘Ad making and Careers in theAd World’ in the 3rd week of March 20<strong>10</strong>.<strong>ICLES</strong> ’ <strong>Motilal</strong> <strong>Jhunjhunwala</strong> <strong>College</strong> ,Vashi,Navi Mumbai 400 703 16

Desk Officer Ms. Lachhmi Bhatt of Institute of CompanySecretaries of India conducted the session for S.Y.B.Com. 30. Activities and support from the Alumni Association.Alumni Association plays a pivotal role in creating a link between the ex-studentsand the institution. It is growing into a strong body with around 400 activemembers. The association has conducted the following activities for the year <strong>2009</strong>-20<strong>10</strong>.• Guru Poornima was organized in a big way in August <strong>2009</strong>. 37. Placement services provided to students.A job fair/campus interview for the final year students of all departmentswas organised on 21st Feb. 20<strong>10</strong>. Leading companies like HDFCStandard Life, Jaico Publishing House, CMS Computers, LIC ofIndia, Effort BPO and others were invited for the recruitment at the fair.About 350 students registered for placements. A large number ofstudents were short-listed for the final round of interviews and 120students got offer letters from several reputed companies.38. Development programmes for non-teaching staff.As part of the development program, the college non-teaching staff wereencouraged to attend the camp arranged by the university, so that they are aware ofthe methodology of implementation of Sixth pay commission to maintaintransparency and efficiency in the work.39. Healthy practices of the institution.• Members of the different faculties are encouraged to participate in conferences,seminars and workshops. The college fully supports these activities by providingtravelling and registration fees (as admissible). Innovative methods and techniques in teaching-learning and evaluationsystem are always encouraged.
