Shorts Days
Shorts days may be given by administration. If so, all shorts must be longer than finger length
when holding arm straight down alongside the body. Shorts days can be lost by students as
outlined below in dress code violations.
Dress Code Violations
Teachers are to turn in to the principal’s office reports of violations against the dress code.
Students may be asked to change their clothing if it is determined by the staff to be distracting
to others or inappropriate. Inappropriate items worn or brought to school may be confiscated
and held until a parent claims them in the principal’s office.
Exemptions to the dress code may be determined for specific events or causes by the
administration.
If a student violates the dress code, the following steps will be taken:
- If a boy is not clean shaven, a razor and shaving cream will be provided for student
to shave on campus.
1 st Time Dress-code Violations – Receive a written warning for infraction & loss of next
Friday Dress-down day.
- Student is not sent home, but they will be asked to change or fix the problem, or
wear a choir robe or jumpsuit for the day. A written warning will go home and they
will lose the next Friday dress-down day.

2 nd Time Dress-code Violations – Receive a written warning and an after-school
detention is issued. A copy of the appearance code will be sent home to parents for a
signature.
- Student is not sent home, but they will be asked to change or fix the problem, or
wear a choir robe or jumpsuit for the day. A detention will be issued along with
another written warning and loss of another Friday dress-down day. 2 nd Time
violators will also lose any designated “shorts days” that are given for the year.
3 rd Time Dress-code Violations –
- Student is not sent home, but must call his/her parent to bring them a change of
clothes. Student will sit in the office until this is done. Student will not be permitted
to return to class until the parent brings in a change of clothes and will receive zeros
for any work missed. (If parent is unable to bring in a change of clothes, then the
student will miss the entire day of school by waiting in the office.)
Continuous infractions for the same thing constitutes insubordination, so every subsequent
infraction will result in a step-by-step suspension starting with a one-day suspension and
moving to a three-day suspension. If a student continues to break the dress-code rules after
receiving three suspensions, they may be asked to leave GCS.
Again, every effort has been made to be clear; however, if an interpretation is to be made,
the school administrator will have the final say.
