What action might we take?If it is a disagreement ordispute between you andanother person or neighbour, and we cannot evidence antisocialbehaviour, we willusually suggest you try andreach an agreement betweenyourselves or offer to provideindependent mediation tohelp you to do this.Mediation doesn’t have to beface to face, you can still reach anagreement separately if you prefernot to meet. This is called “shuttlemediation”.If there is evidence of anti-socialbehaviour we will usually startby giving the person a warningand ask them to change theirbehaviour. They may be askedto sign an Acceptable BehaviourContract (ABC) stating they willbehave appropriately. If there is evidence of seriousanti-social behaviour such asharassment or criminal activitywe may apply to the court fora legal order. This could be aninjunction which stops someonebehaving anti-socially or it couldbe an order for possession oftheir home or eviction.Sometimes people’s behaviour isaffected by other factors in theirlife that they need and want helpwith such as alcohol dependency. We may help them to get supportwith this before we explore legaloptions. If people do not listen to warningsand there is continued evidence ofanti-social behaviour then we maychoose to use legal options tohelp. To get a legal order we wouldneed to prove to a court thatanti-social behaviour had takenplace and that it was reasonableto give an order which could resultin someone losing their home.Eviction is always a last resort.ASB Reporting Line: 01626 32277502229 ASB leaflet.indd 8 20/12/12 18:39:55
