Open afternoon at the Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

Astronomy<br />

Institute <strong>of</strong> Astronomy, Madingley Road<br />

The Institute <strong>of</strong> Astronomy opens its doors for<br />

the annual open afternoon. We will have talks,<br />

displays, demonstrations and hands on activities<br />

for everyone to learn more about Astronomy<br />

and the kind <strong>of</strong> research we do. There will also<br />

be an exhibition from the historical archives<br />

from the Library.<br />

Public observing at the Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

Astronomy<br />

Institute <strong>of</strong> Astronomy, Madingley Road<br />

If the weather is clear, we will run public<br />

observing using both modern and historical<br />

telescopes from the Observatory lawns. If it is<br />

cloudy the event will not go ahead.<br />

Leonardo da Vinci: the case for<br />

lifelong self-education<br />

Møller Centre, Churchill College,<br />

Madingley Road<br />

Who was Leonardo da Vinci? An artist?<br />

Engineer? Scientist? Mathematician? Anatomist?<br />

Mr Francis Wells takes his audience on a<br />

whirlwind tour <strong>of</strong> Leonardo's work describing his<br />

incredible talent in all these disciplines. Hosted<br />

by The Prince’s Teaching Institute.<br />

School Zone<br />

Hauser Form, Charles Babbage Road<br />

Teams <strong>of</strong> students from secondary schools and<br />

sixth form colleges are the experts, showing<br />

what is happening in schools either as part <strong>of</strong><br />

their curriculum or in after-school clubs. Last<br />

year’s School Zone attracted hundreds <strong>of</strong><br />

visitors. Don’t miss these exciting<br />

demonstrations from the next generation <strong>of</strong><br />

scientists, technologists, engineers and<br />

mathematicians as they bring interactive fun to<br />

the Festival.<br />

science lab?<br />

Micros<strong>of</strong>t Research, JJ Thompson Avenue<br />

Prepare to be surprised! Computing is not just<br />

about spreadsheets and presentation slides; it’s<br />

used to do many more amazing things that you<br />

might not expect. Come and see some exciting<br />

Micros<strong>of</strong>t Research projects, meet our<br />

researchers and get hands on with computer<br />

science.<br />
