6 FROM THE DESK OF CONVENER SELSIDear Colleagues,I on behalf of the Organizing Committee welcome you all to attend a two day liveinteractive workshop organized by the Society of Endoscopic & Laparoscopic Surgeons of Agraon Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th October 2009 as the 2nd International Live MultispecilityLaparoscopic Surgery Workshop cum Conference of SELSI. This will be a multi specialtyworkshop involving General & Gastrointestinal Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, PaediatricSurgery & Surgical Oncology. This is the fifth event coming after a extremely successfulInaugural Conference of the Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of India (SELSI)th thfrom 27 - 30 March 2008 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.Society of Endoscopic & Laparoscopic Surgeons of Agra has been regularly organizingacademic activities and training courses for the benefit of the trainees and practicing surgeonsin India. Encouraged by the success of Annual Live Operative Workshops under Prof. Maurya'sleadership and demand for a more meaningful endoscopic society lead to the birth of Nationalbody of SELSI in October 2007 particularly responding to the needs of young postgraduatescoming out of various medical schools and with the objective to provide practicing generalsurgeons opportunity to learn and acquire laparoscopic skills.Prof. Maurya and his dynamic team have accepted the challenge with focus onmultispecialty live operative workshop and deliberations over two days. This year is going to belandmark occasion to celebrate several specialties and likeminded individuals from variousspecialties (General Surgery, Gastroeneterology, Gastrointestinal Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology& Paediatric Surgery) coming together under the banner of the Society of Endoscopic andLaparoscopic Surgeons of India (SELSI) with primary focus on teaching and training oflaparoscopic skills to the young surgical trainees and practicing surgeons who have the cravingfor learning minimal access surgery but do not know how to get such a training at a no cost orminimal cost. Both Indian Hernia Society and SELSI will work towards teaching, training andresearch in the field of Minimal Invasive Surgery, which is so scarce in our vast nation. ProfessorS.D. Maurya who is very well known as a teacher and surgeon par excellence has kindly agreedto provide leadership by accepting our request to be the founder President of the SELSI. I inviteeach and every surgeon to join this movement for the benefit of the society at large by safelearning and practice of laparoscopic surgery at no cost or minimal cost. I solicit support fromone and all for our endeavor for better future.I take this opportunity to invite the industry and corporate sector to contribute generouslyfor this noble cause as they have always done in the past.I welcome you all again to the city of Taj Mahal.
