(Luke Salm, TheWork Is Yours, p. 125)An example of what the spirit of faith meant to De LaSalle can be seen in a resolution he made for himself while onretreat:I shall always consider the establishment and the directionof our community as the work of God. That is why Ihave entrusted it to his care, in such a way that as far as Iam concerned, I shall do nothing that concerns the Instituteexcept by his orders. (A Collection of VariousShort Treatises, pp. 57–59)The spirit of faith is a sharing in the Spirit of God whodwells in us, which leads us to regulate our conduct in allthings by the sentiments and truths that faith teaches us.You should, therefore, be wholly occupied in acquiring it,so that it may be for you a shield against the fiery darts ofthe devil.
