Ulumbarra Theatre has to be seen
to be believed as it rises majestically from
within the walls of the 1860’s Sandhurst Gaol.
Only a five minute walk from the View Street
Arts precinct including The Capital, Visual
Arts Centre, and Bendigo Art Gallery.
The city’s latest venue is ideal for conferencing,
product launches, presentations, private
performances as well as offering sit-down
dining and break-out spaces.
Ulumbarra’s main stage is the largest in
regional Australia and can accommodate
any performer or touring company with a
fully-functional fly tower and world-class
production capabilities.

Schuler Shook, Ulumbarra Theatre merges
contemporary design with the heritage
elements of the old penitentiary architecture.
With an auditorium capacity of 951,
expansive foyers, studios and meeting
rooms, Ulumbarra Theatre’s architects have
cleverly adapted this historic gaol to create
an extraordinary arts and community facility.
