THREDBO 2012Dear Skier/Snowboarder,Here we are in a brand new year and the skiseason is just around the corner.This year the school will be visiting the ski fields from Sunday, 8 th Julyuntil Thursday 12 th July, (4 days of skiing returning Thursday night). Asalways the camp will be fully supervised by <strong>Masada</strong> staff, facilitated byAction Learning Initiatives and all catering is kosher. RISK WARNINGUNDERSECTION 5M OF THE CIVIL LIABILITY ACT 2002SPORTING ACTIVITIES ON BEHALF OFMASADA COLLEGE<strong>Masada</strong> <strong>College</strong> organises a <strong>Masada</strong> Ski Camp during the winter vacation, in which manystudents participate.While <strong>Masada</strong> <strong>College</strong> takes measures to make the sporting activities as safe as possiblefor participants, there is a risk that students can be injured and suffer loss (includingfinancial loss) and damage as a result of their participation in these sporting activities,whether at training or in actual events.Injury can occur while the student is engaging in or watching a sporting activity, ortravelling to and from the event. The injury may result from a student’s actions or theactions of others.On some occasion, an injury can be serious (such as torn ligaments, dislocations, backinjuries, concussion or broken bones). In very rare cases the injury can be lifethreatening or result in permanent disability. If a student has a pre-existing injury,participating in a sporting activity could result in an exacerbation of that injury.Students could also suffer loss as a result of their personal property being lost, stolen,damaged or destroyed.Personal Protective Equipment including the following should be worn for skiing: helmet,gloves, sunglasses or goggles.To avoid theft of skis a padlock and chain should be taken to secure unattendedskis.
