About UsThe <strong>Albemarle</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> is flourishing in its downtown Crozetlocation on the corner of Crozet Avenue and Three NotchedRoad in the historic Fruit-Growers Co-op building. The mission ofABT is to provide a fun, safe, healthy, and nurturing environmentfor our students while offering the highest quality instruction fromthe finest teachers. Our students include beginners, buddingdancers, future professionals, and lifelong enthusiasts.The program offers unique and exciting multidimensional classesthat are designed for growth and enjoyment in dance. Ourinstructors teach with professionalism and enthusiasm, inspiredby their love of the art and its traditions. The school providesprofessional facilities, including a studio large enough for staging.The second floor space – offering Blue Ridge Mountain views – isthe perfect home for our school and multigenerational, familyorientedfaculty.The Studio for the Performing Arts is located in downtown Crozet,sharing space with the <strong>Albemarle</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong>, and is directedby Sally Hart. This non-profit organization’s mission is to producefamily-oriented and affordable dance productions for the<strong>Albemarle</strong>-Charlottesville area through its Live <strong>Dance</strong> program.SFTPA is also working to provide need-based scholarships to localdancers for selected programs with its Dancing Off the Streetsscholarship fund. Development has already begun for the future<strong>Albemarle</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong> Company.The Hart family began this dance project with a vision to bringprofessional, affordable dance instruction and quality danceproductions to the <strong>Albemarle</strong>-Charlottesville area. They openedThe <strong>Albemarle</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> with no outside funding in February,2005. The school now boasts over 100 students, provides $12,000per year in need-based dance scholarships, and has producedfour full-length productions to date. The success of the schoolhas paved the way to expand this dance project with the future<strong>Albemarle</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong> Company by merging with the Studio for thePerforming Arts to accomplish their dream. BiosSally Hart: Founder, Director, and Instructor of the <strong>Albemarle</strong> <strong>Ballet</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong>,formerly danced with the Joffrey <strong>Ballet</strong> for five years and performed atthe opening of the Kennedy Center with American <strong>Ballet</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> ArtisticDirector, Kevin McKenzie. Mrs. Hart has been teaching dance locally forsixteen years and has produced many local dance productions. Leadingroles include Paquita, Maria in the Mambo from West Side Story, as well asa performance with the Duke Ellington Orchestra in Praise God and <strong>Dance</strong>.Veronica has staged and choreographed for numerous ABT productionsand continues to perform.Nicole Hart: Resident Choreographer, Instructor, and <strong>Dance</strong>r, formerlydanced with the Charleston <strong>Ballet</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong>. Nicky trained with Sally Hart,the Joffrey <strong>Ballet</strong> <strong>School</strong>, the Virginia <strong>School</strong> of the Arts, and was privatelytrained by Kris Cangelosi. Nicky performed with the Mikerline Haitian Folklore<strong>Dance</strong> Company and studied Capoeira at Alvin Ailey in NYC. Leading rolesinclude Kitri from Don Quixote, Les Sylphides, and Honeysuckle Rose with theCharleston <strong>Ballet</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong>. Nicky has choreographed and staged severaloriginal works for ABT productions and continues to perform.Sharon Donohue Tolczyk formerly danced with the Dayton <strong>Ballet</strong> Company,where she was also <strong>Ballet</strong> Mistress for both the professional company andDayton <strong>Ballet</strong> II and also danced with Peridance, a contemporary balletcompany in NYC. Mrs. Tolczyk taught at the Boston <strong>Ballet</strong> <strong>School</strong> andWalnut Hill <strong>School</strong> for the Arts, where she also directed the Children’s <strong>Dance</strong>Extension Division and Summer <strong>Dance</strong> Workshop.


BiosErin J. Forker danced with the <strong>Dance</strong> Stop Company for 10 years andperformed throughout the Southeast. Erin was a charter member of thedance company BeMoved; their performances in New York City raisedmoney to establish a dance school in Uganda. She studied under teachersand choreographers such as Lynette Grubb Strickland, Kris Cangelosi, JimmyLocust, Lisa Toups, Marcus R. Alford, Ray A. Hall, Jr., and Melanie Forsberg.Dinah Gray is the co-founder of Charlottesville’s Prospect <strong>Dance</strong> Group andhas danced professionally with <strong>Ballet</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> of Annapolis, the BaltimoreOpera, Kimberly Mackin <strong>Dance</strong> Company, and Off Center <strong>Dance</strong> Theater.After graduating from the Virginia <strong>School</strong> of the Arts, she attended GoucherCollege as a Rosenberg Scholar in dance, where she received a B.A. in<strong>Dance</strong> Performance and Choreography.Ashley McCall-Geisler studied with the Old Dominion University <strong>Ballet</strong>Company in Norfolk, Virginia, and trained with Nina Sakhnovskaya of theVaganova Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia. Key roles include Marzipan andChinese in The Nutcracker and lead roles in performances of Snow Whiteand The Fairy Doll.Mollie Washburne danced with the Montgomery Civic <strong>Ballet</strong> and at IndianaUniversity. Etudes is based onthe exercises of a ballet technique class, developed into a brillianttheatrical work.
