Our<strong>Dance</strong> Companies offer students additional performanceopportunities throughout the year.Hilary Pyles is a graduate of Otterbein Collegewith a minor in dance, and has studied jazz,hip hop, tap, ballet, lyrical, and modern. She hasperformed throughout Ohio with Fort Hayes <strong>Dance</strong>Ensemble and participated in dance festivals andcompetitions nationally. This will be her tenth yearteaching at <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong>. Hilary is head of theModern, Lyrical, Jazz and Hip Hop department.Patti Dompierre is a graduate of <strong>The</strong> OhioState University dance education program. Pattihas been teaching dance for more than 15 years atstudios in New Jersey and Ohio. She has studiedballet, modern, tap, and Jazz with instruc<strong>to</strong>rs fromacross the globe. Patti has performed with the NewJersey <strong>Dance</strong> <strong>The</strong>atre Guild and at <strong>The</strong> Ohio StateUniversity. This will be her thirteenth year teachingat <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong>. Patti is head of the Balletdepartment.Emily Hostetler attended the Ballet <strong>The</strong>atre ofToledo under the artistic direction of Nigel Burgoineand Anne Marie Getz for 13 years whereshe studied the art of ballet as a company dancer.Emily’s most treasured performances are her rolesin Giselle, Cinderella, and <strong>The</strong> Nutcracker, in whichshe performed as a divert. She is currently attendingOhio Wesleyan University where she is studyingzoology and journalism. This is her second year as ateacher at <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong>.Rachel Vinciguerra is working <strong>to</strong>wards a doublemajor in theatre and his<strong>to</strong>ry as well as a danceminor at Ohio Wesleyan University. She has beendancing for more than thirteen years and studiedat <strong>The</strong> Bos<strong>to</strong>n Ballet School. Her main focuses areballet, tap and contemporary dance. This is hersecond year teaching at <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong>.Ivana Webb is starting her second year of teachingat <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong>. She is a freshman at OtterbeinUniversity studying <strong>to</strong> obtain a BA in theaterand a minor in dance. She has studied jazz, ballet,hip hop and lyrical. She has been dancing since shewas 2 years old and will continue studying danceand performing in productions at Otterbein. Shehas been a member of the Columbus Crewzers, theprofessional dance team for the Columbus Crewsoccer team.


Registration, Payment & Fees:Registration is on a first-come, first-servedbasis, and advance registration is necessary <strong>to</strong> takeour classes. Students are not registered and maynot attend class until the office receives at leastthe first monthly installment (though we encourageyou <strong>to</strong> pay for the full year <strong>to</strong> receive a 10%discount) and a completed Health/Permissionform. <strong>The</strong>se are available online or in our office.To register, students may:• Mail payment (check or Visa/MasterCard)and form <strong>to</strong>: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong>, 190 W. Should a student choose themonthly installment schedule, payments are dueby the first of the month from September throughMay. A $10 fee will be added <strong>to</strong> all payments notreceived by the 10th day of the month, and studentswith an unpaid balance at the end of themonth will be au<strong>to</strong>matically disenrolled from theclass. We encourage families <strong>to</strong> contact us beforethe first of the month if payment difficulties arise.Students who remit full payment for the yearby Sept. 30 wil receive a 10% discount off the listedprice. A household is defined aspersons who live at the same address for more thanhalf of the year. <strong>The</strong> fee chart reflects the monthlyfee per class per family member. If more than 6classes will be taken by family members, pleasecontact <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong> for special pricing.To calculate the monthly <strong>to</strong>tal due for a household,it is easiest <strong>to</strong> circle on the chart one class percolumn, then add the prices. It does not matter theorder in which you select the classes. For example,suppose the Smiths were taking one 30 minuteclass and two 60 minute classes within their household.<strong>The</strong>ir chart may look like this:Example:Class perhouseholdmember1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th30 minutes $37 $35 $33 $31 $29 $2745 minutes $41 $39 $37 $35 $33 $3160 minutes $45 $43 $41 $39 $37 $3590 minutes $53 $51 $49 $47 $45 $43<strong>The</strong> Smiths’ monthly dance fees would <strong>to</strong>tal$37 + $43 + $41 = $121. <strong>The</strong>ir <strong>to</strong>tal yearly commitmentif they were <strong>to</strong> select <strong>to</strong> pay monthly for9 months would be $121 multiplied by 9 months.If they were <strong>to</strong> choose <strong>to</strong> pay for the full year bySeptember 30, they would save 10%, which in thiscase, is over $100.Recital Fee: A recital fee of $65 per class is due byNovember 15; recital fees received before September30 receive a $10 discount. Recital fees receivedafter November 15 may result in a late fee equal<strong>to</strong> increased costume shipping charges. Recitalfees help <strong>to</strong> defray costume, venue, and promotioncosts associated with the recital, and are notrefundable after costumes are ordered (withdrawnstudents may arrange <strong>to</strong> pick up their costume afterthey arrive).Certain classes do not require recital fees, asmost students in the class elect not <strong>to</strong> participatein the annual Spring Recital; this year, these classesare Teen/Adult Ballet and Teen/Adult Modern/Lyrical.3


4Refunds: If a student withdraws from classes, werequest a written notice of withdrawal, includingreasons, so we can consider making changes thatmight benefit our continuing students. Tuition willbe refunded only if written notice of withdrawal isreceived by our office. <strong>The</strong> amount refunded willreflect classes not taken after the postmark date onthe written notice. Any discounts given for fullyearpayments will no longer apply since the termsof the discount were not fulfilled. Recital fees arenot refundable once costumes have been ordered,but withdrawn students may pick up their costumeonce they have arrived.Class cancellations: Early registration helps insurethat classes will run. Registration continues untilclasses are filled or the September registrationdeadline passes. We may accept late registrationsfor classes that have already met our minimum registrationrequirements. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong> reserves theright <strong>to</strong> cancel classes or substitute teachers if theneed arises; you will be notified if your class mustbe cancelled.Class Policies:Attendance: Students must attend 75% of theirclasses in order <strong>to</strong> participate in the recital. <strong>The</strong><strong>Dance</strong> Coordina<strong>to</strong>r and Executive Direc<strong>to</strong>r maymake exceptions if special medical or personalneeds exist. Advanced notification of any absencesis much appreciated.Master Classes: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong> <strong>Dance</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>sponsors classes for select students every year,free of charge. Past guest master teachers includeValery Lantra<strong>to</strong>v, acclaimed Russian ballet dancerand direc<strong>to</strong>r of the Russian National Ballet Foundationand the Thiossane Institute, dancers and drumcircle specializing in African dance. Classes arefree, but students must be invited and sign up inadvance.Class Observation: Parents are invited <strong>to</strong> observeclass four times per year during observation weeks;see calendar for dates. We ask that you make everyeffort <strong>to</strong> leave siblings with a sitter.Classes Offsite: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong> hosts a major fundraiserin early November in our facility. In order<strong>to</strong> prepare for the event, the dance classes moveoffsite from Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 26 through November 17. <strong>The</strong>offsite location is usually less than a mile away from<strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> castle; more details will be distributed inclass.Bring a Friend Day: During the year, our dancestudents are invited <strong>to</strong> bring a friend <strong>to</strong> class forfree. Friends need <strong>to</strong> have a permission form filledout by a parent or guardian: otherwise, attendanceis free. See calendar for tentative dates.T-Shirts: T-shirts celebrating the year of <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong>dance will be available for ordering twice a year —once in Oc<strong>to</strong>ber and once in April. Order forms willbe distributed in class.Class Etiquette: To maintain the safety and enhancethe enjoyment for all of our students, we expectthat dance students will behave in a respectfulway at all times. In addition, we ask that students:• Bring a water bottle • Not chew gum• Arrive on time • Turn cell phones off• Wear minimal jewelry • Observe the dress codeClass Cancellations/Makeups:Classes that do not meet minimum enrollmentby August 31 may be cancelled. Students will benotified; we will try <strong>to</strong> place students in comparableclasses. If no arrangement can be made, afull refund will be made. See Class Fees for moreinformation.Inclement Weather: Class cancellations due <strong>to</strong>inclement weather will be announced on radiostations 610 WTVN (AM) and Sunny 95 WSNY (AM/FM) and on channels 4, 6 and 10. We will alsoleave a message on <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong>’s voicemail; call740.369.ARTS (2787). Schools may be closed but<strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong> may be open (or vice versa). Check<strong>to</strong> be sure.Make-up Classes: Make-up classes for classes cancelledby <strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong> due <strong>to</strong> inclement weatheror other reasons will be scheduled th week of May14 (if possible) or other times (if necessary).Students who must make up classes theymissed should discuss options of attending otherclasses with their teacher.Annual Recital:<strong>Dance</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> students have the opportunity<strong>to</strong> perform in the annual <strong>Dance</strong> Recital. Each studentwill receive 4 free tickets per class for familyand friends. Additional tickets will be available forpurchase prior <strong>to</strong> the recital as well as at the door.All proceeds of tickets sales go <strong>to</strong> the operation of<strong>The</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong> and its <strong>Dance</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>.Program and Invitation Cover Competition: <strong>The</strong><strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Castle</strong> dance students are invited <strong>to</strong> submit adrawing that will be featured on the cover of ourprograms and invitations <strong>to</strong> our annual Recital. <strong>The</strong>competition will begin in March and the winner willbe chosen in mid-April. More information will bedistributed in class in March.Dress Code:<strong>Academy</strong>:• Boys (all styles): Clothing that allowseasy movement; no denim. Appropriateshoes, preferably in black.


• Adults (all styles): Leotard with tightsis suggested, but clothing that allowseasy movement is acceptable. Appropriateshoes.• Ballet: Solid color leotard with tightsand pink ballet shoes (black for boys).Hair should be up, preferably in a bun.• Lyrical/Modern: Leotard with tightsis suggested, but clothing that allowseasy movement is acceptable. Barefeet.• Jazz: Leotard with tights or jazz pants.Black jazz shoes. Hair should be pulledback away from face.• Tap: Leotard with tights.
