Question is, why do you follow trends? To be
popular? To fit in? To make yourself feel better
knowing that you own the latest item?
Sure, it is ok to want to know the latest fashion
and trends that are making the rounds, but, do you
really have to follow every fashion trend that is out
there?
Last winter, Aztec prints were making the headlines.
They became popular. Much to every fashion eye
anticipation, the hype around them has died out
and sadly, you no longer seem “cool” when you
wear your Aztec dress, legging or tops that cost you
a fortune. Sad isn’t?
We all know how popular the Converse sneakers
became last year. Every ‘kool keed’ had a pair.
You felt different without Converse. Just before
they became a hit again as they have done over
the years, All Star was just a shoe you could own
We typically don’t really know why we follow
trends but we do it anyway, because that is how the
human brain is programmed. But doesn’t the urge
to be yourself and be unique kill you inside? The
need to know that you can be different not just by
how you look, but what you wear?
The need to be unique doesn’t necessarily have to
make you a fashion flop. You don’t have to start
wearing ‘whatever’ you can put together in the
name of being “unique”.
That is totally wrong.
Who doesn’t remember the Dashiki? Jogger pants?
