<strong>Bocce</strong> <strong>Rules</strong> – Spring ‘2012’ Tournament(Chairperson Joe Amato, Co-Chairs Vito Cirioni and Lenny Mignini)• Entry fee is $20 per person. All players must be paid in full prior toplaying the 1st game.• Each Team will play 4 games on either Monday/Wednesday orTuesday/Thursday nights. Games begin on Monday, May 7th. No gameswill be played on Fridays.• Playoffs – For each Division Top 1 Seed plays Lowest 4 Seed. 2 Seedplays 3 Seed. The Winners play each other for the Division Winner.• One Championship Game - Winners of the North and South Divisions playeach other.• Trophies will be awarded to Champion Team Winner and Runner-up Team.1. Games times will be at 7:15 pm, 8:15 pm and 9:15 pm each night. Time will beheld by Referee’s watch. Grace period of 15 minutes will be permitted.Over 15 minutes the game will be forfeited and the team will be given a loss.2. a) Each team shall have 4 players.b) If a team has 3 players to start the game, each player must rotate tomake-up for the 4 th player. If the 4 th player arrives late, player can jointhe team while the game is in progress.c) If a team cannot field 3 players, the game will be forfeited and the teamwill be given a loss.d) Spouses are permitted to play on the same team.e) Chairpersons and Referees (when not officiating) will be permitted toplay the games.


3. Non-members will be permitted to play. All substitutes are required to pay$3 per game. The original player who misses a game will be permitted to playthe remaining games.4. First team to reach 15 points wins the game. You only need to win by 1 point.5. Total points will be used for tie breakers only.6. Wins and losses determine the standings of each team. Winning records arehigher than total points.7. Coin toss to start the game. The Captains choose heads or tails. TheCaptain who wins, throws the pallino. The Captain who loses picks color ofthe balls.8. a) When the pallino is thrown it must pass half court. A 2nd throw ispermitted. A 3 rd throw will not be permitted and the team will lose aturn.b) When the pallino is thrown it can touch any side boards. If pallinois thrown and hits the back board, then it’s a dead ball and will berethrown.c) When the pallino is thrown out of the court, the pallino will be rethrown.d) When the pallino is knocked out of the court by a colored ball, then allcolored balls are dead and both teams will rethrow.e) When the pallino is thrown close to any of the court boards, the pallinowill remain in that position.f) Each player must rotate to throw the pallino.9. If a player throws the colored ball and hits end of court board withouttouching the other colored balls or the pallino it is a dead ball and pulled outof court. If a player throws the colored ball and jumps the court it is a deadball and left out of court.


10. The Captains are the only ones permitted to question a call by the Referee.If here is a debate, it is settled between the Referee and the Captainsonly. Referee is to be totally respected on all his calls and has the final say.11. When a player has their turn, the player cannot give their turn to someother player for any reason. If the player does, the team will be penalizedby 1 point.12. If a player throws a ball out of turn, the team will be penalized by 1 point.The ball is dead and will be pulled out of the court, regardless if any otherballs and the pallino are hit.13. The Captain can tell their teammate on the other side of court where toposition the pallino or other colored balls. No player is allowed to run andlook at where the pallino is before they throw the ball. No players arepermitted to stand on court side boards while in play.14. If a player throws the wrong colored ball, the ball is to be replaced withthe correct colored ball, regardless if any other balls and the pallino arehit. The throw is still a valid throw.15. If any part of a player’s foot crosses the white line when they throw theball, it is a dead ball. The ball will be pulled out of the court.16. If a moves a colored ball while in play then the colored ball is a dead balland pulled out of the court. If the colored ball of the other team is moved,you will be penalized by 1 point per moved ball.17. If each team’s colored ball is touching the pallino, pull those colored ballsout and use the next closest colored ball.18. If rain occurs during the game and the game is called off, the game willresume exactly as it was on the next scheduled night.Revised on May 1, 2012
