Our premier services include:Emergency Shelter – The center provides emergency, short-term shelter to woman <strong>and</strong> children who areexperiencing domestic violence.24-Hour Hotline – Volunteers trained on the issues <strong>of</strong> domestic violence <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff providecrisis intervention, information, <strong>and</strong> referrals to callers.Community Education – Educational presentations on domestic violence issues are given by our SpeakersBureau <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff. Presentations are made to community groups, churches, corporations, lawenforcement agencies, medical institutions, <strong>and</strong> universities.Community Policing – The CCSS works with local police departments to provide outreach, safety planning,<strong>and</strong> Illinois Domestic Violence Act information to victims.Counseling – <strong>Masters</strong>-level counselors <strong>and</strong> interns provide clinical counseling services for domestic ordating violence victims.Court Advocacy – Court advocates provide services to victims <strong>of</strong> domestic or dating violence in theMarkham <strong>and</strong> Bridgeview courthouses.Teen Dating Violence Prevention – The Fresh Start Program was developed to educate young people onthe risks <strong>of</strong> teen dating violence. Educational presentations are made at schools, community organizations,churches, <strong>and</strong> youth groups.Family Case Management – Pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff assist clients in identifying individual <strong>and</strong> family needs <strong>and</strong>coordinate crucial options <strong>and</strong> services to meet those needs.Hospital Advocacy – Our hospital advocacy program provides outreach <strong>and</strong> counseling to victims <strong>of</strong>domestic violence seeking medical attention through Advocate Christ Medical <strong>Center</strong>.Partner Abuse Intervention – The Choices Program is designed to help batterers end the cycle<strong>of</strong> violence (program fees are assessed to participants/abusers).Transitional Housing – The Bridge Transitional Housing Program provides victims <strong>of</strong> domestic violencethe opportunity to move from emergency shelter to temporary housing.The <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Center</strong> is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All services to victims <strong>of</strong> domestic violence are free<strong>and</strong> confidential.103


AchievementsVolunteersServicesIn fiscal year 2011 the <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Center</strong> provided over 38,000 total hours <strong>of</strong> service for 2,138 clients. The EmergencyResidential Shelter provided 424 women <strong>and</strong> children with 14,833 nights <strong>of</strong> shelter, serving over 40,000 meals.Hotline phone calls numbered 1,570. Six families received over 4,000 days <strong>of</strong> transitional housing. Over 27,000hours <strong>of</strong> counseling <strong>and</strong> 10,000 hours <strong>of</strong> advocacy services helped women learn about domestic violence, helpedthem heal from the abuse, <strong>and</strong> helped them navigate the legal system.CollaborationsDuring this fiscal year, the <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Center</strong> entered into agreements with S<strong>and</strong>box Schools to <strong>of</strong>fer day care servicesfor clients, <strong>and</strong> with Robert Morris University to <strong>of</strong>fer employment counseling. St<strong>and</strong>ard Bank provides five-weekfinancial education programs for shelter residents, <strong>and</strong> board member Dr. Barbara McCreary, along with colleaguesfrom Advocate Christ Medical <strong>Center</strong>, provide health screenings bi-monthly for clients at the shelter.The <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Center</strong>’s Teen Dating Violence Program Coordinator was invited to become a member <strong>of</strong> the TeenDating Violence Networking group through Sarah’s Inn. CCSS will remain abreast <strong>of</strong> new <strong>and</strong> innovative methods<strong>of</strong> reaching students on the subject <strong>of</strong> dating violence.Court AdvocacyThis year, Crestwood Police Department joined the <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Center</strong>’s Community Policing Program. This programworks formally with seven suburban police departments in the Chicago southl<strong>and</strong> to provide comprehensiveservices for victims <strong>of</strong> domestic violence.Special GrantsThe U.S. Department <strong>of</strong> Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, awarded CCSS a three-year $250,000 grantto enhance our Transitional Housing Program, allowing us to serve more families in our community. As a result<strong>of</strong> this program, we will be able to assist 5-10 more families as they transition from shelter to independent living.Transitional clients participate in the program for up to 24 months before becoming fully independent.The <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Center</strong> received funding from the National Association <strong>of</strong> VOCA Assistance Administrators (NAVAA)through a grant from the Office for Victims <strong>of</strong> Crime (OVC), U.S. Department <strong>of</strong> Justice, to promote communityawareness <strong>of</strong> crime victims’ rights <strong>and</strong> services during 2011 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 11-15, 2011.The <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Center</strong> was one <strong>of</strong> only two organizations in Illinois that was awarded this grant.The <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Center</strong> was chosen by the Avon Foundation as one <strong>of</strong> five beneficiaries <strong>of</strong> the first Chicago area AvonWalk the Course Against Domestic Violence, held September 13, 2011, at Cog Hill Golf <strong>and</strong> Country Club duringthe BMW Championship week.VolunteersOur 270 volunteers gave us more than 38,700 hours answering hotline calls, providing clerical <strong>and</strong> technicalSpecial EventsBarbara AbhsieKelly AcostaDave AndersBill BennettJeff BlanchetteBarb CampbellSally T. In fiscal year 2011, sales <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>its from Neat RepeatsResale totaled 37% <strong>of</strong> total agency revenue, making it possible to continue to provide client services free <strong>of</strong>charge.Neat Repeats Resale <strong>of</strong>fers its customers a boutique atmosphere featuring quality merch<strong>and</strong>ise including clothingfor men, women <strong>and</strong> children, household items, small furniture, antiques, jewelry <strong>and</strong> much more; all <strong>of</strong> themerch<strong>and</strong>ise is generously donated by friends <strong>of</strong> CCSS.The resale shops depend on volunteers who donate their time to ensure complete customer satisfaction by sortingdonations, pricing items, greeting guests when they walk through the door, assisting customers with selections <strong>and</strong>more.
