<strong>Kitchen</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong><strong>Job</strong> <strong>Description</strong>Purpose of the postTo enhance the school’s vision which aims to nurture each pupil on their own journey of self-discovery and isbased upon the three key pillars of Educational Excellence, Character Formation and Spiritual Insight.To work under the direction of the Head Cook and assist the Cooks to ensure meals are delivered in a timelymanner and kitchen cleanliness is maintained, in accordance with the needs of the school community.Main Responsibilities:Ensure food preparation areas, utensils and equipment used during cooking are kept clean to ensure compliancewith school ethos, procedures and standards, and relevant legislation.To assist the cooks in food preparations and meal serving as and when required.In addition, the post holder will be required to exercise his/her professional skills and judgement to carry out, ina collaborative manner, the professional duties set out below: -School Catering:• Be aware of and adhere to brahminical standards of personal hygiene including those required forcooking, preparing, food for sanctifying and worshipping Deities• To be aware of and adhere to any special dietary requirements and cultural needs• Ensure food storage areas are kept secure and hygienic and ingredients/food items are packed in sealedcontainers to prevent contamination• Ensure fresh ingredients and meals are stored at the correct temperaturesCleaning & Maintenance:• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in relation to food standards and safetyincorporating Vedic principles, Health & Safety and Government guidelines• Report any standards in deterioration or health hazards to the Head Cook and escalate any concerns toBusiness Manager/Site Manager• Reduce hazards and risks to prevent pestilence• Be responsible for cleaning used equipment, pots, pans and utensils on a daily basis.• Washing up lunch plates and cleaning of serving areas before and after daily serving timesEnvironmental:• Be aware of, promote and comply with school environmental visionHealth & Safety:• To maintain and approve our Food Hygiene Rating from four to five stars• Comply with Harrow’s Health & Safety and Environmental Officer requirements as necessaryGeneral Responsibilities:• To read, understand and adhere to the school’s policies for equal opportunities, health and safety, childprotection and dealing with pupils, staff and parents• Ensure compliance with the school’s Equal Opportunities Policy and take an active role in promotingequality and diversity• Support the school’s vision, mission, faith and ethos.• Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils• Participate in meetings to discuss curriculum, pastoral and other issues including staff meetings, INSETdays, departmental and whole school meetings as required.• Ensure compliance with the school’s information, security policies and maintain confidentiality• Undertake other duties appropriate to the post that may reasonably be required from time to timecommensurate with the grading of the post
