Currently• Single ngs.ac.uk Virtual Organisation with oneor two sub groups• Need to be able to more easily supportmultiple different access models, FATPOU,CATPOU individual agreements etc.


Services• <strong>User</strong> Accounting Service (UAS)• Virtual Organisation <strong>Management</strong> Service(VOMS)• Workload <strong>Management</strong> Service (WMS)/<strong>User</strong>Interface (UI)


Policy Choice• Single VO containing groups and subgroups(attributes within the VO),• Multiple VOs such as per institute or perproject• Multiple VOs each containing notionally twogroups – Paid & Free


Types of VO• ngs.ac.uk – catch all to support 2000 hour taster accounts inthe Free subgroup• SiteA.ac.uk– Paid, covering staff with research computing access– Free, all other users from in SiteA• Externals.SiteA.ac.uk– Paid, covering all users with whom SiteA has made externalagreements• ProjectA.ac.uk– Paid, Covering funded project participants– Free, All others associated with the project


Usecase 1• University A has a contract with University Bto provide computational resources toapproved users• Uni B controls who from their own institutionis approved to incur charges at Uni A.


Usecase 2• University A is offering CPU time toresearchers from other institutions on anindividual contract basis.


Usecase 3• University A and University B want to offer failover support toeach other.• Within the business model of Uni A there are FATPOU hoursavailable to all members of the university but CATPOU hoursfor those users with a large or urgent CPU allocationrequirement. Uni B has a model whereby all approved staffmembers may utilise their research computing resources.When resources from Uni A/B are unavailable it would likeusers, whom they have approved to run up charges, to havecontinued service availability through resources from Uni B/A.


Usecase 4• Project A is a small institutional (University A)project that is aiming to use resources to seeda larger application.


Usecase 5• Project A is a large multi institution project with partners inUniversities A, B and C.• Project A has a VO representing its user community(projectA.ac.uk).• Participants of the project are divided into two types, thosenamed members of the collaboration and those members ofcollaborating departments who are working on the projectbut are not directly funded by it.
